Comment: I have the Trojan.ByteVerify virus on my computer! I have run Norton Anti-Virus numerous times (also in Safe Mode) and it has not helped...it has found the virus, but is unable to either quarantine or delete the virus. I went to the page the Norton sent me to, followed all directions, and I am stil unable to delete or quarantine this virus - help please!

Reply: (edit)I tried the CWShredder, which actually didn't even find anything! And, yes, I have tried turning off System Restore and then running Norton Anti-Virus...I actually tried two more times this morning, but with no luck.

Reply: (edit)Wow, I can't believe all these infections. On systems that are really badly infected like this one, here is how I do it. First, download Ad Aware and run it. Download it from here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ I usually find on systems that are really infected badly, to go into msconfig and disable everything that looks funny first, then run adaware. Type in Start-Run then type in msconfig. Look on the startup TAB and uncheck everything that looks funny. Then, reboot the computer and run adaware. Delete everything adaware finds. Reboot the computer and run adaware again if the system is really infected, like over 150 items found in adaware. Once you've got it clean with adaware, then update your antivirus program with the latest virus signature files and fun a full system scan. This should do it, this will clean you all up. Then, run adaware once a week or so to keep it clean. This ad ware and spy ware stuff keeps infecting your computer simply by visiting websites and getting junk email, thats why you have to continue to remove it all the time. Wouldn't you like to catch the guys who are writting all this stuff? Face to face? Yea, I would.... Aloha & Good Luck JKD

Reply: (edit)Wow, lots of questions and info here... I picked up the byteverify trojan on our pc too, and we're running Norton AV, constantly updated, and a firewall. This is another one of those Microsoft problems, that supposedly can't be fixed (unless you're using a non Microshaft operating system, but you'd have to be a nerd to do that ;) ). I fixed it by sacrificing a tiny bit of performance, like this (my system is Win2000 Pro, but it should work for others): 1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel and open Java Plugin 2. Click the Cache tab 3. Clear the Cache 4. Uncheck the Enable Caching box That fixed it for me, and I don't download Java related things frequently enough for it to make much of a difference for me, performance wise. If that describes you too, I recommend this :) If you want to know why it works, email me. I figured I wouldn't go into it for simplicity sake.
