Hi all,

My laptop is infected by Virus now I cannot log into Windows. At first, the IE popped out a lot windows and then the machine shut down itself. Now every time I power the laptop up, a message "svchost.exe-Application Error” shows up when the Windows Logo shows. Then another message “The system is shutting down”
shows and finally the blue screen shows up with a message “STOP: D0000144 Unknown Hard error”. I tried with safe mode or last successful login but the same thing happened. Using a DOS startup drive, it tells that the C hard drive is not registered.

Used some virus software to scan the computer under DOS and found the following Trojans in Z hard drive (But I only have one partition C hard drive in fact):
jwjbt.exe; vyqnwwd.exe; cdegfr.vir>>VE; rsysinit.exe.V; res[1].exe.vir
But my software cannot clean them. I deleted those files by hand but the problem still exists.

Since I have some documents in the hard drive that I want to back up, I do not
want to reformat the hard drive. Could you please tell me how I can back up
those files or what kind of software can be used to clean the virus? Or could
you please help me take a diagnostic if possible? Thank you very much for your
help!

Best regards,

wjx

I think you should completely re-format your hard drive and do a fresh install of windows.

To get your files, I suggest using a live linux CD. Slax is good and it's a smaller download than others (it's at slax.org). download the .iso file and burn it to a CD (burn the cd "from an image" don't just copy the iso to a data CD)

Save your files to a USB flash drive, and be sure to scan the flash drive for viruses before doing anything else with it.
