I just ran the Housecall free scan and it said I had 2 files infected with TROJ SUA.A
Has anyone had this and what does it do to the computer? I just deleted the files that were infected and ran Housecall again and it said I didn't have any infected files. How can I be sure that it is all gone?

Had to delete the same thing on my client computers a week ago. You'll need to do some regisitry editing. This url covers everything: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.autoupder.html

11thrash,

Follow sergey's advice.

Then:
there are certain things that you can do to protect yourself.
1) update you antivirus software and run a full scan of your system.
if you do not have a antivirus program... go to http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.htm and download this very good free anti virus program.

2) use a software firewall... if you don't have one.. download the free version of zonealarm from:
http://www.zonelabs.com/

this will prevent anyone from accessing your computer.

3) go to http://www.majorgeek.com/index2.html and download their free program called ad-aware 5.71.
this will remove any spy-ware that is on your systm.

4) go to: http://www.finjan.com/
and down load SurfinGuardŽ Pro 5.7 - Beta.
SurfinGuardŽ Pro protects PC users from new, unknown Internet threats by monitoring and containing the behavior of downloaded progams and active content. SurfinGuard Pro runs active content (e.g., executables, ActiveX, scripts, Windows scripting files and Java) in a protected "sandbox" called the Safe Zone that automatically blocks potentially hostile actions.

Do you think For Norton Antivirus 2002 with the script blocking enabled, would it be safe enough?

Thanks for the help. I did what Sergey said and had to delete a couple of entries in the registry. Now everything seems to be all right. Does Zonealarm keep interrupting to ask about packets the way tiny personal firewall does? I took out the software firewall because it kept popping up asking for permission for everything. I do have a router with a firewall but that doesn't help if I download something with the virus in it.

11thrash,

You can set the permissions in zonealarm.. for each program.. so it won't keep popping up and asking you.

CK,

I have never used Norton, so I can't tell you on that aspect. However, I can tell you that Finjan stop the Klez virus from infecting my computer. And when Norton AV came out with it's removal tool, I removed it.

I enjoyed the Housecall Virus scan. Very easy and thorough. Even enjoyed the Q&A session that taught me all about Antivirus strategies that include purchasing their own brand of software.

The strange thing was that it informed me that I had 3 files infected with the TROJAN.SUA.A. that I could not find with a manual search of the listed directories or a file find. I even searched through HIDDEN files.

Was I even infected or did Housecall tell me this to encourage a sale?
