A dumb question. I used an antivirus software called Defender, from imesh, which picked up a trojan keylogger in a number of files. I was unable to get rid cos it was only a trial version. Yet when I try to locate them again with other antivirus software, eg Norton, it doesn't show anything up! The files infected are game mods. Could this be confusing the antivirus software?

AGNITUM's Tauscan is a great trojan program, and has a free 30 day trial. It should be your solution. All the best!

Very funny. I also used defender, which picked up teh same trojan.keylogger in the directory. My Defender was installed on the 22th June 2002.

Defender said it found the virus in the following files

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\H@TKEYSH@@K.DLL
and also in the PWS directory, and said things like "Corrupted Archive".

On dowwnloadeing Tauscan, I started scanning for the virus, and it found nothing.

Could the Trojan.Keylogger found in the Windows/System directory a hoax? Could it be a hoax created by the defender software itself?

I have the same trouble. Started up July 10th. The Defender Virus scan showed up mysteriously on my machine. I never downloaded it. It just appears on my screen on a timed basis, and runs a scan (or so it says) and reports that it has found 4 viruses including:

BATCH.virus
Trojan.KeyLogger
COM.TSR.Virus

I also keep running MacaFee online virus scan which finds NOTHING - and I can't delete this "Defender" thing! VERY FRUSTRATING.

I did receive an e-mail that my machine sent an infected file with the virus W32/Klez.h@MM
which McAfee also failed to detect.

WHAT IS THIS and HOW DO WE GET RID OF IT?????

I suspect White Horse is correct. This Defender program seems insidious. I ran a "Find" on it, to discover that it had rooted itself in my programs directory under "Common Files" as part of a file called eAnthology. I deleted all I could, anthing in the Defender files, and all I could under eAnthology and eAcceleration. ACCESS WAS DENIED to the 150 mb exe. file!!!!!!!

I did manage to get it to the recycle bin, but then I couldnt empty the recycle bin!!
Clearly, Defender, eAnthology and eAccelerations ARE the problem. Please post if anyone gets RID of this thing.

I also has used the defender and it discovered this trojan keylogger. I tried mcafee but it didn't find anything. then I tried something called protector plus. On a page that I visited did it said that this program would work but it didn't. I have started to belive that this trojan s--- is something that comes along with imesh. And is nothing to worrie about. I am going to to download imesh again and installed it and se if the problems shows up again after a while.

Defender isn't a hoax. It's virus search engine far surpasses that of Norton and McAfee. If Defender says you have a virus, you do. I've been using defender for some time now, and it's found a few things. The trial version only scans. You have to pay something like $10.00 for 3 months and then Defender will clean the virus and you get unlimited email support. For that $10.00 you also get 3 months of an online game (T4C) plus more games coming in the near future.

Again, it's not Defender that's the problem, it simply the fact that you have a virus that Norton and other virus scanners can't detect.

Defender took care of the problem for me. I have a paid version of it. It quarantined the trojan and deleted it.

I also found 2 Trojan.Keylogger Viruses. One in the populat H@tkeysh@@k.dll file in windows/system/ and i also found one hidden inside _restore/temp/A1661019484. I believe both have ceom from a program called Kazaa that i use frequently to download mp3s, WMP files ect. If you use kazaa and dont have virus scan you should check up on these files. I also have found a possible Trojan.Backdoor in a program called popupkiller, used to eliminate small window adds before they even appear on your screen. Does anyone else find this when they use the defender virus scanner? Plz report. thanks -Shawn

yea found the h@t file in my system 32 also... when you think about it, is there really gonna be a file in your syste 32 called h@tkeysh@@k, h@@k i think is supposed to be slang for hack and when have you ever seen microsoft use @ for a's anyway? ither way im kinda scared to deleat it, oh and for those who are left with the defender, try shift+deleat, this skips the recycle bin thing and just whipes it out...permenatly... if some brave soul would be willing to deleate this h@tkeysh@@k file, and tell us about it, it would really ease my soul to know that soeone has done so, thanks

btw i also d/led kazaa and imesh, imesh just yesterday, the virus could come with that program but im leaning more towards kazaa since i d/l that a long while ago and it says it was created in november 2001... but it might be kazaa so dont go blow up at them just yet, any way im pretty sure its not that big of a threat seeing as how norton and mcfee havnt found it... and seeing as how its a trojan you actualy have to activate the damned file for it to do anything... also its only 20 kb's long, thats like half a page worth of codes, maybe less...so i doubt that would do anything really horible, could be wrong though

and to get defender to stop poping up go to start-run and type in msconfig .then turn off anything that doesnt run from system32 in the startup tab, this will also make your computer boot up much faster if you have lots of programs running at start up

i have deleted this file so called h@ck logger or something similar to that. restarted the comp already and nothing has happened. i think the defender itself is bull and places this file on my comp to make sure i pay for it. it is a piece of scam if you ask me.
