Lisa, Run a virus scan in SAFE mode which may get rid of it.

In the virus vault is
1)Trojan horse downloader small.30.bk
c:\windows\downloaded program files\aun_0011.exe
2)Trojan horse downloader.generic.cv
c:\windows\downloaded program files\installer_mediawhiz8.exe
3)Trojan horse downloader.agent.9.d
c:windows\system32\winupdt.exe.
These all say in the vault back up copy infected.
In the main scan is
Trojan horse downloader.agent.9.d
c:windows\system32\winupdt.exe.
In safe mode it doesn't show up.

Reboot the computer into Safe Mode then show hidden files by going to control panel>folder options >view>tick the circle beside "show hidden files and folders">apply>ok. Then go to c:\Windows\System32\winupdt.exe and right click on it>delete.

Reboot and go back and close the hidden files then delete the files in the virus vault..

Hello again Jabuck. I did what you said and couldn't find the winupdt.exe file. I even did a file search. I deleted the files in the vault. I ran avg again and this time it came up clean. Could it have disappeared when I ran avg in safe mode? My son loves winmx and runescape.com. Could all these problems be due to these sites?

Hello Glorybirds, winmx in itself is not a threat however any files downloaded on a p2p network could be infected.I'm not much of a gamer so I don't know about runescape.

The trojan could have been deleted when you run AVG from safe mode. You miight run Ewido Security Suite Free Trial and be sure to get the latest updates after you download it. Then reboot to safe mode and run it.

Hi Lisa, Hi all
Runescape is safe. My three kids have been playing it for some months, no problems.
However it is possible that support sites has downloadable cheats and other stuff, that contains malware. This is very common.

I do believe he goes on those cheat sites. He lives on that website. I will just have to watch it very close. Thank You everyone for your info. I am leaving now for vacation and I am not going to think about that dumb computer once. LOL

I'm having a similar problem. AVG tells me I have a Trojan Horse downloader. generic CV on my desktop . I've tried to run AGV in Safe Mode to remove it but it says it can't remove it - Any suggestions?

A seprate problem is my laptop. From time to time the Anti Virus Protection is turned off. I open Norton to activate it but it doesn't. A second widow keeps popping up to tell me to turn off duplicate notices in Norton and Widows Control Center but I'm can't seem to figure out what notices. Both of these widows continually pop up as I use the lapto Both desk top and laptop are XP OS.
