I am having major problems with my Windows ME computer...Let me begin...I have an AVG Free Antivirus scanner that I use to detect if viruses are indeed on my hard drive. The AVG reads that it finds two copies of a Trojan Downloader in the Temp Folder but I am not sure where the actual virus is...The AVG finds the copies of the trojan horse and puts them in the virus vault but doesn't find the actual trojan horse itself. Also, my Temp Folder is missing. Whenever I reboot the computer, there is also an error which reads... RUNDLL...Error loading... C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~1.DLL and when I try to get online, it will not connect. So, can you tell me what to do so that A)I can get rid of the trojan horse and B)get back online...and does the DLL error have anything to do with the trojan horse, the temp folder missing, and the fact that I am unable to get online? Thanks....

pinky61105, Go to start>settings>control panel>add/remove programs and uninstall these if they are there:

new.net

newdotnet

savenow

webhancer

Next reboot and see if you can get online. If you can do this so we can find the viri's executable files or if not post back to let us know. Download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.

Then run this free online scan from Panda

To get rid of a parasite you have to scan your system with an anti-spyware program. AVG is an antivirus and it may have difficulties correctly detecting and removing a parasitic browser plugin - NewDotNet, wich is your problem.

First of all you have to follow jabuck's instructions and then download and install Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta and scan your computer. Remove all the pests it will find.

pinky, It's probable that the Winsock 2 settings are messed up. Go to the link below, read the "lspfix.txt" file at the bottom of the page then download the "LSPFix.exe" onto a floppy disc or CD. Transfer the floppy or CD to the problem computer and run the LSPFix.exe. Make sure that you follow the instructions from the "lspfix.txt" file.

LSPFix Tool
