When I ran AVG on my pc this message comes up saying that I have Trojan horse Downloader.lstbar.5.k on C:\Documents and Settings\user\svchost.exe(backup copy) Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem? Will it affect my pc's functionality?

try scanning in safe mode, with avg and adaware, and empty temp folder, also try toolbarcop to check for BHO plugin and delete, also check msconfig>startup for file and disable, run regedit and search for file 1stbar and delete...:)

use bitdefender 8 pro to block and remove it. trojan downloader will be available although u use hijack this and other spyware programs cause its a spyvirus that will appear and appear when u are using internet and surfing. When u use spayware to remove this, it will only remove once as per request and after it removes the trojan downloader will come again as u begin the internet surfing. the best is that to use bitdefender 8 pro to defend ur system from tojan downloader. i use this in my system and its effective then any spyware program.
