Comment:

On first boot yesterday my HijackThis icon (of all the icons!) had changed to the generic type folder and on right clicking, AVG explained that the PC was infected with 'Trojan Horse Back door.Small28.AO'. Without further delay, scanned and deleted the offender (then ran Ccleaner and AdAware). Purged Restore Points - Seemingly no damage done.

The last thing I did the night before was to update AVG and AdAware and couldn't believe something had got on my computer.

I'm interested in what that thing was (nothing from Google/AVG/Spyware warrior searches) and it's potential consequences. Any ideas? Thanks.

Bill.

XP Pro
Dial-up. IE6 SP1
ICF and ZoneAlarm enabled
AVG Resident Shield enabled

I'm ok.

If you check out this link :

http://forum.misec.net/board/TrojanHunter;action=display;num=1110383220;start=15

You'll see that AVG may only have definitions for the most widespread trojans, as it is primarily for AV scanning.

You could see what free stuff they have here :

http://www.wilders.org

But don't pay for PC Door Guard - you get 1 year and it may work but its not worth it imho.

You can if need be do an online trojan scan here :

http://www.pcflank.com

(You have to turn off your firewall I believe - in order to run the scan.)

- Sorry about the links ... you'll have to copy / paste as I cannot seem to just copy shortcuts as I do on other forums.
