I have been attacked several times now. I have Norton Internet Security installed and it stops the attacks, It tells me that the IP of the attacker is 81.77.0.145 and i have traced this to node name monofoto.fsnet.co.uk....
Does anyone know how i can find out exactly what program the Trojan is hiding in and how i can get rid of it. I have run norton antivirus (fully updated) but it finds nothing. What can i do about the hacker also?

Go to www.lockdowncorp.com and download the FREE trojan scanner SWAT IT.
Also, visit www.housecall.antivirus.com.
It is NOT a real time scnner, but it is very good and has frequent updates to its definitions, one recent just the other day.
As for tracking them down, www.samspade.org can help you identify them but as for STOPPING them, protect your box, with recent anti virus, use a trojan scanner often (every few days) download AD AWARe from www.lavasoft.de , install on FIREWALL like Zone Alarm from www.zonelabs.com
and watch spaces his this page for recent and good news about security concerns.
Also, check the secuirty pages:
www.wilders.org
www.hackerwhacker.com
www.pcflank.com
www.grc.com
www.lockdowncorp.comDon't EVER open ATTACHEMENTS in your received email, and be wise as to what web pages and sites you visit and don't ever downlaod anything from a source you DO NOT trust.
Always, anti-virus scan a downloaded file before installing.

Do these softwares really help? One's hard drive can be uploaded just be visiting some website. All I can say here is to be aware of any unusualness of your PC.

As far as them "helping", yes they do, or would you rather be totally exposed?
If your hard drive goes up against a pro
hacker, forget it, he'll win, given enough
access and time, but the idea is to slow
him/her down and make them pass you by, going onto someone who believes
that firewalls are "not really that good"
thereby they become an easy target for the hackers who know what to look for.
Stealth mode surfing, current antivirus, cookie control, trojan scanning, etc are all meant to protect your PC, but obviously there is no such thing as absolute security.

hi mark777,
in a situation like this you want to be sure that the hacker can not penetrate your machine.
its very important that you make your machine invisible to the hacker, cracker. download a free firewall such as zone alarm of kerio and stealth your machine. i don't know if nis does this or does it properly as to stealthing ports 137-139?
first line of defense is to check if you are indeed trojaned. go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to pcflank and do a free trojan and port scan
if it comes up positive then go to wilders.org and download free 30 day trial of trojan hunter and do a complete scan.
also you may want to link to Regprot and download free registry monitor also go to sysinternals and download free Process Explorer to see whats starting up when you are booting up.
if you find any unusual files link to simovits consulting and do some research cause you have to be smart against these hackers.
knowlege is the key here and the more you know the better you can defend yourself, as they like to prey on the ignorant, weak and defenseless.
all the best,
murve

Hi,
I am not offering any solutions, but have read the responses with utmost interest. I do have a more or less similar problem with hack attempt. I have installed Norton Antivirus 2002, but get almost daily attemps of break in, mostly from different adrresses. According to the security check from Norton, my computer is configured correctly (all stealth ports) and should be save. I still am worried about these attacks and wonder if norton really stops them. I also have an idea who is doing it.
Can I download the mentioned trojan scans without it causing problems with Norton??What else can i do?
