Shanamc,
Trend Micro antivirus can remove several types of Trojan Downloaders automatically, including instructions for manual malware removal, and the manual fix to remove your Trojan infected file depends on the exact alias of the Trojan Downloader and infected files. Here is what I suggest you do to begain removing the Trojan Downloader.
1. Delete all Internet Temmporary Folder, cookies. Delete all *.tmp and *.gid files in Windows Explorer. Empty Recycle Bin.
2. For Windows ME/XP users, disable System Restore before running antivirus so the program can scan and remove any infected EXE and COM system backup files.

3. Update and run your latest antivirus to remove malware automatically.
BTW, I used to pay for Norton Internet Security with antivirus and had no clue what to do with the infected files, but now I use Trend Micro antivirus (their free antivirus and updated free Sysclean Package to remove malware automatically). In addition, the Trendmicro website is very user-friendly and informative about fixes for specific malware.
If you want to use Trend Micro Antivirus, here how:
RUNNING TREND MICRO ANTIVIRUS
For first time Trendmicro antivirus program user:
Find free online virus scan at, http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
For subsequent Trend Micro users, either purchase or download free antivirus software updates:
A. For free automatic removal of malware after initial free online scan, use Trend Micro System Cleaner (working well for me and recommended if you want automatic removal of the latest malware).
B. Free update of this automatic removal software is available for both the matching scan engine and virus pattern file; both should be updated at the same time. Make sure you read the readme.txt for specific instructions, but basically the syclean program should be installed in the same folder as the latest unzipped virus pattern folder.

Free Matching update of latest virus pattern file: http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp
3. If your updated antivirus program or Sysclean from Trend Micro cannot automatically remove your specific Trojan Downloader, then you'll have to remove it manually, which may include delting infected file from memory and Windows registry. The antivirus will at least identify the Trojan Downloader and the infected files for you.
You could consult the Virus Encyclopedia at Trendmicro.com which offers manual removal of many malware files, including Trojan Downloaders. The instructions provided are clear.
If you need help removing your specific Trojan Downloader, just let me know the Alias and the infected file name, and I could see if I could help you removing it manually in the registry.
