I'm trying to help a friend with her computer and I need some advice. She has something called trojan downloader agent.5.l and agent.5.k . We are trying to remove them but they keep coming back. We have ran AVG, AdAware and turned off system restore. AVG finds them and removes them but they are still there and she still gets the pop-ups saying that a virus was found. I've done a search on both AVG's website and Symantec's website but can't find instructions for either. Can anyone tell me what else to do or where to go?

When you turned system restore off, did you restart the computer? Have you ran AVG while in the safe mode, and have you emptied the temp internet files and off line content ones too? You might try http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ or get a ftrial of TDS at http://wilders.org/ Be sure to update it and then run it while in the safe mode.

Yes, I restarted the computer. And I did have her to empty all of the temp files. I don't think she had ever done that. I haven't tried to run it in safe mode. I will try that next. AVG says that the file is in the system32 folder but I can't find it when I look. I've disabled hidden files and it still doesn't show up. I will try the sites that you recommend. Thanks.

I too have been infected with Agent 5*. It is in System32. AVG says to delete the infected files. To find the files run AVG and the message comes up Trojan House Agent 5*, and then gives the name of the file. If you look for the file you will find it in System32. My problem is that I have not deleted these files (they keep multiplying) for fear that it will de-stabilize my computer
