Hello all, downloaded something called "mediaTube" a codec needed it said to run a website, it turned out to be a phoney. It installed Trojans, diallers, rogues, rogue anti-virus, back-doors according to a program called XP Anti-Virus XPA. It found 62 problems which it claims to fix for a one of $49.95 price.

I have run Windows live care, says no problems. I have zonealarm, winpatrol, spywareblaster, comodoBoclean, Avast av installed. I am presently running a thorough scan which will take 2 or so hours.

I received some files from Panda Av after i downloded and ran that codec file, don't no what it removed.

What do i need to do to remove the porno website image that appeard, and whatever else has infected my PC.

Is that XPA Legite, or can i purchase a free one??

Please help.

Thanks, GEP

Nope XPA is a highly undesirable program. It is also a rogue security software that Computer Associates has defined as follow:

Rogue security software uses deceptive means for installation and purpose. Once installed, the rogue software usually uses scare tactics to inform the user that spyware or malware is installed on their system. The rogue security software then claims to offer remediation in exchange of payment.

You can remove it by going to the following page.

Hello XpUser and all, thanks for your reply, it found 1015 problems that Registry booster, and would only delete 15 of them. Cost £19.95 to purchase.

Also, i cannot delete XP Anti-virus, or the Mediacodec file off the desktop.
How can i delete these??

The XP icon keeps popping up. Cannot find it in Add & remove, it is in Program updates, but cannot delete it or the media one.

Thanks, GEP

I run Spyware Doctor and swear by the stuff. Most fakes codecs have Zlob with them and that a nasty torjan. Spyware Doctor does take care of them but costs money. You can try runnning the free Spybot S&D and adaware first if you like. They need to be ran in safe mode

Hello all, thanks for your replies, have downloaded Threatfire, MalwareBytes, Superantispyware, between them and HiJackThis, have removed from my computer what i would have had to pay for.
I might consider buying the full version if they work out for me.

Thanks for your suggestions, and help, GEP
