Comment:

Got this Trojan infection in my labtop, and is opening IE on its own to connect to some chinese websites.

Tried numerous programs and does not seem to get it off.
- The cleaner
- Norton
- AVG Anti-spy wear
- Trojan Remover

Appreciate some one can advise how to eradicate this trojan/virus from my computer.

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified.

Please download HJTsetup.exe from this link http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click "next" in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
Put a check by "Create a desktop icon" then click "Next" again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log and post it in this thread.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;

Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".

Choose your usual account.

Run Hijack This from safe mode, close all windows except Hijack This, place a check to the left of the following items and press "fix checked":

O2 - BHO: Sodui Search - {35EC0410-555E-4402-B372-D9A6E0BF6795} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\winhoj59.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: IE Browser Helper - {D0903A3B-F0EA-434a-9742-98C5335C7946} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEHelper.dll

O2 - BHO: SysShellKernel - {E04B27AA-3973-4D68-8F42-B7C2FC8C6CF7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\SysShellKernel.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: MyFavor Web - {F7F49040-389C-4f1f-A825-06D5328EAE59} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\MyFavor.dll

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {3DE8F786-2B5A-4660-94FA-C5A443F55DD0} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\internet.exe"

O4 - Global Startup: ruango.lnk = ?

O4 - Global Startup: WanSo.lnk = ?

Exit Hijack This but remain in safe mode.

From safe mode navigate to and delete these files if found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSRundll.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winhoj59.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEHelper.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\SysShellKernel.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\MyFavor.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\internet.exe

Empty the restore folder. Go to start>control panel>system>system restore tab>check the box beside "turn off system restore>apply (takes a minute)>ok. Go back and uncheck the box to turn system restore back on>apply>ok.

Make a new restore point> go to start>run> type "msconfig" without the quotes> ok> launch system restore> check the circle beside "create a restore point> next> name it anything you like> create> home> next> cancel.

Restart the computer and see if you can post a new Hijack This log with it.

tried to do the recommendations, this is what I hit.

"unexpected error occurred!,
error #52 (bad filename or number) in Sub Getlongpath(?.exe)"

Access denied: cannot delete IEHelper.dll
Access denied: cannot delete Internet.exe
These files are narked as read only, tried to change the attributes to non-read only, get same message of access denied.

Could not find winhoj59.dll
could not find sysshellkernel.dll
could not find Myfavor.dll but found Myfavor32.dll and Myfavor64.dll but I did not do anything to them since the file name is different.

Deleted MSRundll.dll

The system restore is already turned off, however tried to turn it on, it say can only turn-on in normal mode.

Restarted the machine in normal mode and turn on System restore.

AVG is complaining Backdoor.agent.ahj found
c:\windows\system32\cdsdf.exe
also
Adware.Agent
c:\windows\system32\IEHelper.dll

Please download Killbox by Option^Explicit. If you already have "Killbox" update to this newer version.

Save it to your desktop.

Reboot into safe mode.

Run Hijack This and remove these items:

O2 - BHO: Info cache - {385AB8C6-FB22-4D17-8834-064E2BA0A6F0} - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\PCTools\pctools.dll

O2 - BHO: IE Browser Helper - {D0903A3B-F0EA-434a-9742-98C5335C7946} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEHelper.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\internet.exe"

O4 - Global Startup: ruango.lnk = ?

Exit Hijack This but remain in safe mode.

Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
Select:
Delete on Reboot
then Click on the All Files button.
Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\PCTools\pctools.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEHelper.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\internet.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\MyFavor32.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\MyFavor64.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\MyFavor.dll

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let us know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click Here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Please download ComboFix to the desktop from this link:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Double-click combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
(Don't click on the window while the program is running, it may cause your system to hang.)

Please post the log it produces.

Go to this link, http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html and use the "browse" button to locate this file:

c:\windows\system32\cdsdf.exe

then double click the file to enter it into the "upload and scan box", click send then post the results. You may have to scroll to the right to see the "send" button. Then post the results please.

Reply:

Looks like a chinese rootkit.

Go to the following link, download and install AVG AntiRootkit

Run it on the infected computer, delete all that it finds, then post a new Hijack this log. The combofix log would be helpful also.

This may take a little effort to get rid of so hang in there.

The following will help determine which files are bad.

Go to this link, http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html and use the "browse" button to locate these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ad203.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\xtnzic82\xtnzic82.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\A677FFBC.DLL

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DiskFree_mt01.2.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\LocalSetup_ASM_4620.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wiasoervc.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\A677FFBC.DLL

C:\WINDOWS\system32\A677FFBC.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\cb02.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wang.exe

C:\WINDOWS\WGSJy1.exe

C:\WINDOWS\WGSJy.exe

C:\WINDOWS\systemst.dll

Then double click the first file to enter it into the "upload and scan box", click send then post the results. Continue untill you have checked all the files and posted the results. You may have to scroll to the right to see the "send" button.

Sorry for the delay, my satelite crapped out them my computer crashed.

Set up the computer to view hidden files by going to start>control panel>folder options>view tab>tick the circle beside "show hidden files and folders" and untick the box beside "hide extensions of known file types" and "hide protected system operating files">apply>ok.

Then do a search for "services.exe" and let us know how many you find and their full patch such as "C:\Windows\services.exe".

Reboot into safe mode and run killbox:

Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
Select:
Delete on Reboot
then Click on the All Files button.
Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ad203.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\xtnzic82\xtnzic82.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\A677FFBC.DLL

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wiasoervc.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\cb02.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wang.exe

C:\WINDOWS\WGSJy1.exe

C:\WINDOWS\WGSJy.exe

C:\WINDOWS\systemst.dll

Then navigate to and delete this folder.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\xtnzic82

Run this rootkit scan please. Download F-Secure BlackLight
Click no to viewing unsecure pages if asked then accept the agreement.
Click download (Download Blacklight Beta graphical user interface version ) and download it to your desktop.
Double click blbeta.exe> click run> accept licence agreement> next.
Click Scan> Next. After the scan you'll see a list of all items found.
Please click Next and then Exit. Do NOT choose rename for any items yet! I need to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there.
A log will be created on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx are numbers)
Please post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Please download Dr Web CureIt to your desktop from this link ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan.
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives.
A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable.
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log on your desktop.

Looking better.

Download haxfix.exe.
Save it to your desktop.
Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
Checkmark "Create a desktop icon".
Click "Next".
When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed.
Click "Finish".

Double click on fix.bat desktop icon (Haxfix)
Close all other open windows since this step requires a reboot.

Select option 2. Run auto fix by typing 2, and then pressing Enter.
If an infection is found, you'll get a message to close all other open windows.
Close them, except the red dos window from haxfix and then press Enter.
The computer will reboot.
After reboot a logfile will open.
Post the contents of that logfile.

Hi Jabuck,

My machine did not reboot and hence I did not get the log file.

The HAXFIX run finished with a msg saying "No Haxdoor or Goldun infection found." and returned to the main menu.
