My system automatically changes (reduces by 2 hours) the time. Not very often but once in 10 or 12 days. I dont know whether this is a virus or any system error.

The cmos battery comes to mind. Could be on its last legs. They're cheap enough to replace.

I agree, sporadic changes like that with no other symptoms has got to be a battery issue.

Could also be one of 2 things. 1. If you're on a network, you may be getting your time from the server, or 2. Since you have XP, this operating system now offers synchronizing your computer's internal clock with an Internet time server. You may want to check your settings, here's how:

1. Double-click the time on your taskbar to launch your Date and Time properties.
2. On the Date and Time tab, make sure it reads the correct date before continuing. If it doesn't, adjust the date and then click Apply.
3. Single-click the Internet Time tab.
4. Select the time server you want to use.
5. Place a check mark next to the text that reads "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server."
6. Press the Update Now button to begin synchronizing.

Hope this helps,
- David

I have 3 Win98 systems & 1 Win2000 system. The Win2000 system keeps the correct time. All 3 Win98 systems insist on changing the time immediately after it is set, each by a different amount + or - 10 minutes. I installed Rocket Time on all 4, and on the Win98 systems the actual time it picks up from the time server gets adjusted by these weird offsets too. The Win2000 system is fine. This sure sounds like a virus??
