Hey Guys!
I've got this TEMP Folder on my hard drive and was wondering if it is alrite to delete all its contents? There are just so many files in there which i am not sure if they r important or not, so is it safe to delete them?
Also about the index.dat file, i can see this file in my Cookies Folder is it safe to delete this file?
ur help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hello John,
You can delete without problem all files installed into your "Temp" folder, don't erase the folder itself, which is a part of the program windows.... and reconised as it.

The INDEX.DAT file you see in the cookies folder is actually in the temporary Internet files folder and contains a history of every URL (web page) your system has accessed and a record of all the sites that have installed cookies on your system. Of interest only to law enforcement and spyware programs that try to track your internet usage.
Search these forums for DELINDEX.BAT for more information about it or just go to the DELINDEX.BAT web page for a copy and instructions on the best way to clean both the TEMP folder and the Temporary Internet files, including the INDEX.DAT file which you can not remove while Windows is running.

Good comments.
One program that can clean out index.dat files and anything else you want to erase out, is PurgIE.
Very tidy program, had it for nearly a year and am on the last of 15 free non contiguous days - also has a great preview function. PurgeIE
Thanks for the delindex.bat info, JackG - I'll look it up this afternoon.
ciao,
Ice

A handy (and free) program for cleaning .dat files is Spider 1.16 and has been available for some time. Link below:

I used to use Spider, but about a year ago went to SuperCleaner, which I prefer. It also empties the .DAT files on reboot.
