Hi, i have recently been having some computer problems. My house currently has 2 PC's. One is running Windows XP Professional, and the other is running Windows XP Home. Both have 512 ram and i have GForce 2 MX grafics card in both of them. My computers are connected by LAN and occasionally I plug in my Laptop into the LAN to back up files. One of the PC in the house acts as the Server. I am using Netvigator for internet access.

Around a month ago, my Server started having problems. At that time, i did not have any good anti virus sofwares exept Norton 2004. My Server crashed and naturally i rebooted it. Upon restarting, Nortorn gave me a note saying:

"TCP/IP Error, 33000"

After that i could not access the internet and none of the LAN computers could see the Server in the LAN window. I figured it was a virus and since I didnt know what to do I rebuilt the system. After a few weeks the problem returned.
This time the GForce2MX driver was also destroyed, along with the TCPIP problem, and my user interface deteriorated into 4bit grafics. When i tried to change it back to 32bit, the drop down menu only had 4bit on it. However, when i ran the computer in safe mode with networking, everything worked fine, the grafics was 32bit again and i had internet access again. Later i re-installed the GForce driver and the grafics was okay. But the TCP/IP problem was still there. Because i was so fustrated by then, i unplugged the Server and let it sit in my closet for a while.

Internet is now a nessecity for me because i have to hand in assignments online. So i pulled out the other PC and made it a Server. A few weeks passed with no problem. However, yesterday a notice poped up with:

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability. Windows must restore the original version of these files. Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 CD now."

The options were: Retry, More Information, Cancel
Note that "unrecognized" was spelled that way in the error message.

When i pressed More information it told me that either i had the wrong CD, or my CD drive was not functioning. I had lost my Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 CD a few months ago and now i am afraid it is a virus.
I ran a Stop-Sign Threat Scanner that my friend reccomended and so far all it has come up with were spyware. Norton did not detect anything at all. I then tried the online Trend Micro housecall scan but it failed and gave me the following message:

"Trend ActiveUpdate did not update sucessfully. It may result from busy server or bad network traffic. Error Code: 47, Error String: Invalid zip file, Do you want to retry?"

if i retry the same thing happens. Is this TrendMicro's problem or is it mine? So far i have been paranoid and i have not shut down or reboot my computer yet. Is there someone out there who has the same problem? is it a virus? should i get a anti-virus program? which one? Please help.
