If your system does not have a virus, it is best that system restore is checked (turned on). If you ever encounter a virus, disable system restore, get rid of the virus, and turn it back on.

Excuse me, but with respect, that is incorrect information. Please go here and read this:
It clearly states that checking the box DISABLES the system restore:
