Alyson, welcome to Computing.net

Try this....
START - RUN - type MSCONFIG - OK - START UP.
You might see a listing for SYSTEM or SYSTEM32 with a check by it. Remove the check, then click APPLY - OK. Restarting your PC a message will show indicating you are running in SELECTIVE START UP. You can ignore this message and tell it not to remind you again.

Post back if this did the trick for others to learn from.

Any problems, come back.

i had a problem like this...

The folder that was coming up was where a trojan was starting up in that folder.
After i deleted it, it kept on opening the folder..

Anyway try Start, Run, msconfig, and make sure that under Boot explorer is; "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe"

And not "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe C:\system"

I have windows 98 and noticed that msconfig differs so u may not be able to see that info. eg. XP

hope that helps
steve

PS. im a new user...3rd attempt on sending this!

My system is doing this too. The System 32 folder opens when I boot up the computer. Mine is a new system running XP and I've installed AOL 9.0, Total Recorder, Goldwave, Office 2000 and Linksys networking software. I've also put a link to Windows Explorer on my Desktop.

I've narrowed it down to Windows loading up something called /L:ENG in SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run in the Startup tab of MSCONFIG. In RegEdit, it seems to be pointing to some kind of Welcome Screen for Sound Blaster Audigy 2. I think it may be trying to register. Not sure. You might be able to just delete it in the system registry, but be careful before you do

To Steve: Thank you!!! from the bottom of my heart! I finally got rid of my system 32 folder at startup!!! I have Windows XP and did a variation of what you suggested:

I went to Start, Run, msconfig - ok - start up...then under the tab Startup, I unchecked a couple of commands that ended in "system 32" - one was C:\WINDOWS\system32\leqaugyx.exe and the other was C:\WINDOWS\system32\zzb.exe. The first one I know was a virus - I've deleted it before; the second I'm not sure, but so far I don't miss it. And if you make a mistake, you can go back and check it again (hopefully the viruses don't recheck themselves, cause I can't delete the entrys, just uncheck them). I had my system restore turned off during this and restarted it afterward. Soooo Happy!!! Thanx.

Christy

Hello everyone. This is my first post, so apologies if I'm in the wrong place. I Googled "My sytems folder opens on startup" and got this.

For a while now, my system (WinME)has been trying to connect to the web when I boot up and shut down. Then it started to do so whenever I right-clicked an Icon. For the past couple of days it has been opening the System folder on startup.

I've scanned my system with NortonAV (including the on-line virus check) but haven't found any know virus (virii ?).
