( I do not know much about computers......just as a warning)

I have this thing on the tool bar, system alert! and when I click on it, it goes to anti-vermin or something like that. I have read some other forums on this, and all except one have done some hijack stuff that goes way over my head. One of the victims used a few different anti-virus/spyware tools, and said it disappeared. Is that a good way to get rid of this...or must I do it the complicated way?

If superantispyware hasn't succeeded in removing AntiVermins (which was going to be one of my recommendations) or the bleepingcomputer instructions are a little too complicated, then I have seen Prevx1 remove this on many occasions.

This is a pay-for program, BUT they do have a free trial which will scan your computer and remove any infections free of charge during this period. Once clean you can then uninstall if you do not wish to keep it.

Other Free possibilities would be the AVG products which may also be able to clear it.

I will try all of those...but the funny thing is.. I am using the Windows Live One care thing(the free demo) and it says it identified a torjan and quarantined it...but the little thing on my toolbar is still there...weird...

svchost.exe
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/p...
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/svchost.htm
"Svchost.exe" (Generic Host Process for Win32 Services) is an integral part of Windows OS. It cannot be stopped or restarted manually. It manages 32-bit DLLs and other services. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services portion of the registry to construct a list of services that it needs to load. In normal conditions multiple instances of Svchost.exe run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services, so that separate services can be run depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This allows for better control and debugging.
Note: The svchost.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. In other cases, svchost.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager.

Note: svchost.exe is also a process which is registered as the Trojan.W32.Dasher. It takes advantage of the Windows LSASS vulnerability, which creates a buffer overflow and instigates your computer to shut down. To see more information about this vulnerability please look at the following Microsoft bulletin: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/se...
