hi all hope someone can help. turned on my laptop yesterday and had symantec auto protect pop-up twice telling me it has blocked a downloader. run norton full system scan and it found nothing. which is strange that it can block it but not find it. so i went into history to find the file it has blocked.

it is located c:\user\xxxxx\appdata\localvirtual store\windows\system32\link.html

and another is

c:\user\xxxxx\appdata\local\microsoft windows\tem internet files\content.ie5\yz6f1u8b\4321iodiod[1].exe

the only free online virus scan that even said there was something wrong was Kaspersky Lab which said it was a win32.small.xhc

i have not noticed any slow down on my computer or any pop-ups other then the first 2 when i start windows

any help would be great, thankyou for your time

The first item you list is in your temporary internet files. Delete them then run spybot S&D to see if it will take care of the win32.small.xhc.

hi, thankyou for your fast replys' . run spybot found a few items but not this one. i even took a shot in the dark and manually deleted it in safe mode with system restore turned off. it seems to have no problems with me deleting it but comes back on restart. i have checked the file and it seems to be firefox updater, well that's what it has on it.

run an online virus check that deleted it but again came back after restart.

any other ideas
