on symantec center console,a client pc status is missing definition while trying to access virus definition manager and any other option i got a msg sayning that symantec antivirus cant communicate with that pc the network is using windows server 2003 and the client pc has windows xp BEST REGARDS

Check the that symantec live update/administrator update is the latest version and that it is working properly. Download the latest version from Symantec, then uninstall/remove the version on the problem system and then install the latest version and try to do an update. HTH
