I am having a minor problem. I just finished changing all the port settings and setting all the needed rules for sygate to allow Azureus (Bit torrent) to connect and do its thing. It runs near perfect. The exception is every once in a while i get a message saying that sygate blocked javaw.exe which i know i gave permission to connect. I believe this block is giving me a momentary slow down of connection to the torrent. As i said this is a minor problem of little significance but, if anyone could help me out i would appreciate it.

This is the first time I have read a post in which someone was having trouble with sygate not following the rules. But that is exactly why I quit using it.

Some applications that I was certain I allowed access were being denied. I reinstalled and the same thing happened only then it was a different application. On the last reinstall it kepst trying to block my system kernel from accessing for some reason.

Good luck, I took it off my system.

If i may ask, Which firewall did you begin using after you removed sygate? I couldn't find a way to open and close specific ports with zone alarm and thats why i started using sygate in the first place.

You can configure Kerio, so I think it would be a good alternative for you. I would suggest Outpost too, but the free version is not in the same league as the paid for version based on the various firewall tests. It can be set up using many rules as one wants.

I have never programed Sygate to allow anything and it not allow it, nor have I blocked something and it allowed it..Use your help it is real helpful you must have something wrong, I use Sygate and have no problems allowing and disallowing and also their forum really if it is done correctely you should not have any problems..right click the Icon and click applications and make sure it says allow, also make sure its on normal, I have Buzz Me answering machine but on the Sygate Application it says Ring Central, you program you want to allow may depend on something else you have blocked also look at that. Good Luck

Mogshaz,
"If i may ask, Which firewall did you begin using after you removed sygate?"

This is about the time I purchased my first router/NAT firewall. Although, as backup, and not always on I use ZA Pro. Some people don't like it because it can use a lot of resources. The only time I have some slowdown is when ZA has been running for several days without reboot while I have continious downloads cranking. Other than that it's pretty smooth and configurable.

Was the free version of ZA not allowing your torrent files to perform well? I know it doesn't let you configure ports, but I have used the free version just fine with emule, mIRC, etc... by allowing the programs server access. This is probably not optimal, as I'm sure a packet or two gets dropped, but nothing I couldn't live with.

If i remember right, Zone alarm free was allowing Azureus to connect to download the files, but it wouldn't connect to remote computers. Which slows downloads on bit torrent consideribly. Also, i figured out what the solution was. Changing javaw.exe's access setting from "allow" to "ask" then, changing the setting back to "allow" when the sygate connection pop-up asks if the program should be able to connect to the internet. And *poof*...like magic, the block message never came up again. Thanks for everyone's suggestions on how to solve this vexing problem.
