hi guys/girls,
recently, svchost.exe has been gobblin up my CPU's resources and i dont know how to take this dang thing out...ive tried to end the process in task manager but it says access denied! i need helpp please! thank you in advance

Lol. You don't want to get rid of that. That program is one of the core programs that runs your computer. The majority of your services and such are run by that program. If you manage to stop it or delete it your computer will not be able to work. If it's hogging ghastly amounts of resources you might want to go through your list of services and stop some. The Messenger service is one that can go right off the bat. I don't think anyone actually uses that (except for sending spam).

I have 4 svchost.exe's showing in my task manager. But they don't seem to be causing any problems.
Maybe you have some spyware or malware using up your resources. You could run AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy to check and remove any bad stuff.

svchost.exe is used to run many services, usually .dll files - your prob is that svchost.exe is running malware. As noted by Tope, if you manage to delete it your system will not function. What you gotta do is get rid of the malware.
Go to http://answersthatwork.com/ for a description of svchost.exe and to http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/6433.html for assistance running malware removal progs
Good luck

Very good advice in all those posts,
I have 5 svchost.exe's showing in my task manager, and in XP they are all in the Windows\System32 folder where they should be. ie. the 'system' folder
%System% is a variable. By default, the legit files are
C:\Windows\System (Windows 95/98/Me): not present
C:\Winnt\System32 (Win NT/2000):C:\Winnt\System32\svchost.exe
C:\Windows\System32 (WinXP):C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe
So either there is a baddie residing in some other folder; or a baddie has hooked into a legit svchost.exe to make it use that much CPU. Either way: to find out, follow the forum guidelines, Run SpyBot/Adaware and post a Hijack log.
hth,
iceblue
