I was automatically connecting to porn site & having my home page changed at log-on. I inadvertently deleted all the copies of svchost.exe, thinking that they were all viruses.
Now I cannot copy and paste, interact with notebook through USB connection & am getting strange messages.
Can I just copy svchost.exe from a similar spec computer or is another method required?
Thanks,
Conor

svchost.exe always gets the blame! The file is actually meant to host other programs that start from .dll files.
It shouldn't be too difficult to extract it from your installation CD.

I already tried booting from installation CD, in the hope that it would bring up a 'repair windows installation'. It didn't - well not exactly. It gave an option but you had to type in the system that you wanted to repair.
Any assistance would be appreciated.By the way - I agree computers are far less hassle without humans.

Did you get my e-mail?

Sorted!!
Biggest problem wasn't finding the file or where it should go but moving it about as windows explorer wasn't functioning & my DOS isn't what it should be.
I zipped the svchost.exe file on another computer, saved it on portable media & unzipped it to the proper folder.
Thanks anyway.
C.

Whats up Conor. I also mistakenly deleted my svchost.exe, thinking it was virus related. Ever since I deleted it my comp. is just not the same. How did you get it back? I just about tried everything to retrieve or restore it. So far nothing has worked. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks
