Trying to help a user with the following situation: Symptoms noticed when User navigated to a page requiring a login- in the User Name box, text started to appear like someone was typing. After that, any page visited is filled with characters, words, symbols (i'm unclear as to just what appears). Also, if Word is opened while the web page is being overtaken, text just starts typing across the page (words and characters). Not sure if this happens with other applications.

I don't know where to begin with this one. A co-worker of mine thinks the hard-drive is going bad, but i have huge doubts about that one. Scanning with Norton AV 2002 produced nothing. did not scan in safe mode, however.

any help/hints/anecdotes appreciated,

CJ

I am assuming that your AV has been updated within the last week ? Make sure you go out and get weekly updates . Unless they are kept up to date they are useless against newer viruses . Don't know where you work but there are programs administrators use that allow them to take control of your pc like PC Anywhere maybe they were doing something . If they use these programs they can see anything that you are doing .
