Does surfing the web through a proxy server prevent adware/spyware from getting into your system? I am trying to find a solution to this problem without having to install any software to bog down my system.

Why surfing threw a proxy would keep a small amount of ad-aware from gaining information about you it will not stop or prevent it. Spy/Ad-Aware comes in many flavors. You can get it via installing a 3rd party program or clicking on the wrong thing at a web site.

I do not see how Ad-Aware, Spybot and SpywareBlaster would bog down your system so I do not understand why you do not want to use these programs but a proxy is not the answer to a spyware/ad-aware free computer.

Though I walk through the valley of Microsoft, I shall fear no OS for skills are with me
