My fiance's daughter has downloaded a ton of crap on my computer. The latest is some sort of Trojan that has taken over the computer. It changed the background to say "warning! spyware threat has been detected on your computer" and goes on a bit from there. If I change ther background, it just changes it back. I am also getting popups with fake Window Security Messages that take me to a site selling virus protection. It has also greyed out the ability to use the task manager. I have run Kaspersky Internet Security and and ADAWARE and it still remains. The Virus Protection occasionally pops up with a warning about Trojan.Win.VB.azo.

I don't even know how to begin to clean the computer. HELP

hi, a good start would be to use the free progs listed on 1 page in the red link.
Then run this free online scan:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php
and remove all it finds.

Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

As per XpUser4Real links;
All good ones. In addition I suggest;
http://www.superantispyware.com/ (free)
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (free)

Use every single program to scan and remove items for every user account. Update the programs before scanning.

Try to remove all suspect programs from add/remove in the control panel first or the original programs may reinstall nasties.

After you're done run offline scans in safe mode. Reconnect to the the internet. Run ALL scans again.

Turn System Restore off then turn it back on to clear all previous Restore points as Trojans can reside there. Run ALL scans again including safe mode.

Keep doing the above steps until all scans are clear. I know it's a real pain and takes forever but once infected with multiple unknown infections there is no other choice without knowing more.

Additional programs may be needed but start with the programs provided to you so far. I'm sure I've ovelooked much. I always do on the the first round of cleaning.

Post back and let us know how it goes. It can be done. It just takes time:

RandyL
