I saw a strange problme in my laptop which has windows 2000 pro installed.

When I am working on someting offline using command window, some letters appreas in the command window even if I didn't type in anything. Since I didn't connect the PC to the network, I don't think my laptop was being hacked. Is that because of trajon horse or virus? Can the trajon horse or virus writter control when and what will happen to the machine even the machine is offline, like the case I saw that some letters are typed in.

Is there any other reason why I saw this strange problem? Thanks for your help in advance!

I'd check the laptop's hardware itself. Laptop keyboards are notorious for going bad, and one of the many ways these problems show themselves is by the keyboards "randomly generating" characters. Usually, this happens when a key is *JUST* about to go completely bad, and even breathing on the keyboard will "strike" the key.

Maybe if you can give us some more information, like which characters are appearing, how often they appear, when the last time you ran a scan/updated your virus definitions, which AV app you're using, etc.

Thanks for the reply.

The reason I doubted it was virus instead of hardware randomly generated character problem is because the characters have some meanings that was for me. The characters apprear several times and every time it has its meaning that is exactly for me. I know someone I know continuouly hacked my machine, which makes very mad.

Hope I have given you more information. Any other clue? Thanks again for your help!

Try a firewall like zonealarm or if you want to be more devious search the web for keylogger or tracking programs and create a usage log and see what all he's doing.
