Specs: Windows XP Professional, 2048 MB DDR2 SDRAM?
I was browsing the internet when suddenly something resembling the windows login screen appeared, however the logo was slightly more blurred and instead of English all of the characters were in from a foreign alphabet. Furthermore my laptop is not password protected. By pressing ctrl+shift+tab i was able to select another programme i was running but it would immediately switch back to this screen, and when I pressed ctrl+alt+delete a box would appear for less than a second before also disappearing back to this screen. I have restarted my laptop both normally and in safe mode and after the windows welcome screen appears this strange login screen pops up before the desktop can load. The laptop is unresponsive to any actions except very briefly to ctrl+alt+delete. I should add when it is left alone for several hours a dialog box appears saying that virtual memory is low and when i press ok nothng happens. When i press the reset button on my laptop my desktop back ground is visible while it shuts down, this being the only time that it is.

Thank you in advance for any help

I would recommend you do a full recovery using the recovery disks or pressing the required key to start the recovery process as soon as the laptop is turned on.

On most dell laptops you need to press <Ctrl> + <F11> together when the dell splash-screen appears at boot time, with no external devices connected to the laptop.

That sounds like either a simple trojan or possibly a mate
playing a practical joke on you

If you are able to bring your task manager up with CTRL-
ALT-DEL before it starts up you may be able to kill the
process that is causing it the go find the process research it
and work out how to remove it.
