Hi all!
I have never seen these multiple errors pop up before and am wondering what happened.
1st, let me explain what all happened...
Last night when I was done for the night, I ran Adaware, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster and CWShredder. I emptied my Temp Internet Folder and cookies.
Then tonight when I booted up all these errors popped up that I never saw before (one window on top of the other).

"Norton Protection has cause an error cannot locate Library Icons."

"Rundll error cannot locate Library Files."

"Powrprof.dll error loading, cannot be found."

"Error starting program, Winspool.drv wasn't found."

After many repeated attempts to bootup, I decided to repair IE, it wouldn't let me. I even did a system restore, and it didn't help at all. Then I tried to reload WinMe and it kept stopping at the 65% mark and told me the following error...

"SUWIN caused a general protection fault in Module Verx.dll."

After a few attempts, it finally took, and reinstalled WinME over top of the WinME that I had already. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Norton's and now am doing a virus scan. So far, so good!

Gateway's tech support told me that I may have some sort of virus that harms bootup?
Is this possible? And what is it called?

Also, all my icons lost their color(s). The ones that were IE icons (E), should be blue with the (E) on them, now they are white with the (E) on them. I don't know what happened.

Also, are there any other free AV's on the net where I can run them to double check?

Thanks to anyone that replies. Please tell me what to do in layman's terms. Thanks again.

Virus could be a version of Klez or Welchia.

Which renders norton useless, but this is an old problem, if your up to date more than likely your files had been corrupted.

The problem is if a virus gets to your boot area an overwrite of the O.S. will not cure the problem.

Thanks for the reply.
I was finally able to reload WinMe.
I did a virus scan on Norton's and it found nothing. I did a virus scan on Housecall and it found nothing either. My Norton's is up to date so I don't know what happened. Also, all the missing files are all back and no more errors. Strange...
