hi, i went to a site which agressively placed their url as my start up page in "Internet Options"...always such a pleasure. Normally, i just go and change this back to Google.com which is my normal start-up page. but this site keeps returning every time i start up my computer again!!! where is this info stored or is it a virus??
appreciate the help

just go to the intenet option>>Temporary intenet files>>Settings>>View objects and check if u see the odd ActiveX.
Then Delete Cookies and delete all the internet temp. files.
Post back please whether it works or not.

There is a virus that can cause your homepage to change
too so might want to rule that out
VBS.VBSWG2.X@mm
Good luck

ok, i found a TMP file in C/Windows/System called "rad8746E" which had the following:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Start Page"="http://google.com/en"I had to change it manually to google...it had been something else. I rebooted and my start up page now stays as google. don't know how it changed though or if i can be 100% sure it won't come back.
any ideas??

Whenever I venture into the unknown on the 'Net, I always disable "Active Scripting" which prevents popups from loading among other irritations. I'd recommend you do the same by following these steps:
1) Right click your Internet Explorer icon and choose "Properties" from the menu.
2) Click the "Security" tab.
3) Click the "Custom Level" button.
4) Scroll down the list to "Scripting" (the options are listed in alphabetical order) and under "Active Scripting", checkmark the "Disable" option.
5) Click "OK", then answer "Yes" to the warning message you see next.To reset defaults, simply repeat steps 1 & 2 and then click the "Default Level" button.
You will come across pages from time to time that will just load blank, but if you're sure they're OK, just reload defaults to view the info.

Type 'Hijacked Home Page' in the search box at the top of this page. You will find chapter and verse on how to edit the registry entries that have been affected. It is a lot of work but it works.
