I hope that you can help me. I ran virus scan last night, after installing DSL and it came up with 3 viruses that it deleted. I also ran spybot and ad-aware. Then today I get a message when I start my computer saying that c:/windows/system32/services/wmplayer.exe is not found. I downloaded wm9 from microsoft, but I still get the message when I start up. Can anyone help me out, please?
Tanja

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the suggestion. But the problem with the wmplayer.exe is at start up. I haven't even tried to open the media player. And the problem started after removing 3 virus, so I thing that somehow the the virus was linked to the media player and when deleting virus I might have deleted some part of media player. But I don't know.
Tanja

Well, looks like it's trying to load and for some reason (perhaps because you loaded a newer version) it can't.
I'd just go into the registry and remove the reference from the Startup menu. If you need help with that, lemme know..

Hi again,
I really need help with that registry stuff, because I have never tried that before. So if you could help me, it would really make me happy. Also, should I delete the windows media player and then download it again. How do I make sure every little piece of it is deleted? Maybe I should tell you what the messages at start up say again.
Message 1:
Windows cannot find c:\windows\system32\services\wmplayer.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for the file, click start button and then search.
Message 2:
Could not load or run c:\windows\system32\services\wmplayer.exe specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the refrence to it in the registry. That is easy for them to say....just move the refrence from the registry. I don't even know what they are talking about. So any help would make me very happy.
Tanja

Sorry! I meant to say the Startup folder...
Just do a search for that folder under your profile and delete the reference to the media player executable.
If that doesn't work, or it's not there, lemme know.

Jennifer,
Could you tell me how to do what you just suggested in small steps. I'm sorry, I know that I must look like an idiot, but I'm just not good at this computer stuff. I'm trying my best to learn - and you are helping a lot. But I just don't understand what it is that I need to do.
Tanja

Jennifer,
I have the same problem.
I deleted the file in the registry to kill the Trojan.Bookmarker. After that, starting up my PC, i had the same 2 messages.
I don't know how to solve it exactly, but to make sure you don't see the messages again, do the following.
Click start, then run
Type msconfig, then click ok.
Go to tab Start up and look for wmplayer and disengage it.
It worked for me and the Media Player is still works.
You can also go to DriverGuide.com and download wmplayer.exe and place the file in C:\windows\system32\servicesIf you know anything more, please let me know.
Good luck, grtz Erik

Hi Tanya,
I had the same problem. I fixed it by finding the wmplayer.exe program (just search files and folders) and then I copied it to c:\windows\system32\services\. It seems to have worked.
When I tried erikbuter's solution, I got a complaint about a diagnostic startup - so I undid it.
Keep in mind, however, that I tinker my way around computers about the same way as I fixed my parents phone, oh so many years ago, - I used a hammer...

Can you help me, Ive tried everything and I still can't remove the "wmplayer.exe" error message. Thank you for your help
