Hi, AVG keeps alerting me to the fact that I have startpage.19.j trojan, and I have run various programs to try and get rid of it, but nothing works. I have looked on this site and various other sites to find out how to delete this trojan, and ended up downloading Dr. Web, as was suggested on another forum. However, a file within this program now also appears to be infected, and when I try to delete Dr. Web from my pc it will not let me. I have seen other people posting their logs to get help, but do not know where to find the log on my pc, as i am pretty much illiterate when it comes to computers. Could someone please help me with an idiots guide as to how to get rid of this trojan? And also a hint or two as to how I can delete Dr. Web would be appreciated.
Please be aware, if anyone is willing to help me you will probably be in for a long haul, as I don't know how to access and delete files in safe mode etc, I think i will need it spelt out to me!

Regards,
Steve.

If you can delete files in "normal mode" Windows, you can delete them in Safe Mode.

--------------

Dr. Web may have been infected by your virus, since it is web-based.

The logs you see posted here are from HiJackThis - a totally free scanning program available on the Internet.
Listed here under "Official Donloads":

Beware of downloading software outside of your country. Dr. Web is actually from Russia.

Hi,

Download
http://www.derbilk.de/SpSeHjfix109.zip
for win 98

http://www.derbilk.de/SpSeHjfix112.zip
for 2000/xp

to the desktop and then right-click a blank part of desktop & select new folder, call it spfix and unzip the file into that folder.

Disconnect from the net and close all open programs.
Go to safe mode.

Run 'SpSeHjfix'. and click on "Start Disinfection".
When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.

Good luck

On a few occasions it has been reported that after using the SPSEHjfix you cannot open Internet Explorer.
To fix this, go into Control Panel >Internet Options >Programs & press reset web settings, then you can set your home page to what you want on the general tab.
