Hey, I'm pretty new to the computer scene, and just have some questions about spyware. I think that it is being used on my me. Is there a way to find out if it is on my computer? How can I disable it? If there is anyone that can help it would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance for the help.
Gil

Gil,,
Go to:
Ad-Awareand download the following:
Ad-aware is a free multi spyware removal utility that scans your memory, registry and hard drives for known spyware and scumware components and lets you remove them safely. It is updated frequently.

Gil,
I almost forgot...
there is another program that is very good, but may be difficult for a newbie to operate...
and download the following:
SpyBot-S&D searches your harddisk for so-called spy- or adbots; little modules that are responsible for the ads many programs show. But many of these modules also transmit information about your surfing behaviour and more to the net.
If SpyBot-S&D finds such modules, it can remove them - or replace them with empty dummies in case their host won't work any more with its bot removed. In most cases, the host software still runs after removing the bot.once again,

Hey Tank,
Thank you very much for the advice. AD-Ware said that it found and removed all suspicious material. Does that mean that its all gone. I will try the SpyBot-S&D. To see if it will find anything. Thank you so much.Gil

Ad-Aware is great but it never guatantees removing all spyware, new techniques of spying are used all the time so Ad-Aware probably wont detect them until you update.
Generally, to avoid spyware only use software you have purchased, freeware software that obviously costs money to run (peer to peer file sharing) usually use ad banners and sometimes spyware, be careful :)
