Hi Dextergirl,

After closing all browser windows, fix the items listed below using HijackThis and then reboot.

For the future see: So how did I get infected in the first place? http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=38;t=3051 In addition to using SpywareBlaster (mentioned in the thread) I would also use SpywareGuard http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html
Four of the most recommended anti-spyware programs are SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard and Spybot S&D and Ad-aware. If you install all four programs, keep them updated, and scan with Spybot S&D and Ad-aware periodically, you will be fairly well-protected from spyware.
Thought I would mention that SpywareGuard includes a browser hijack stopper (Javacool calls it Browser Hijack Blaster) that protects your system from browser hijackers and spyware that alters your Internet Explorer settings.

I also tryed them all to remove istsvc.exe
And nothing would remove it. I am running Xp PRO.
I noted that istsvc.exe would load every time I booted the computer no mater what even after unchecking it run > msconfig > start up.
So I went to > Search > All files and folders > typed in istsvc. And came up with two folders that I could not remove.
Nuts what to do now???
Started in safe mode (F8) and went through the same moves and they are all gone.
Ran scan with SpyBot,Ad-Aware 6.0 and it worked.
Could it be this easy?
Well it worked.
I hope this helps anyone.

Hi nowoowoo,

Yes it is that easy. Spybot S&D targets ISTBar for removal as it is foistware.

However there is new malware everyday and as good as these Anti-Spyware programs are they don't remove everything. That is one reason HijackThis was developed.

You have to look for a program called
Tinytoolbar.exe

The program does not install where you can see it like your add and remove programs.

I think you will find it in your Document settings. Do a search on your computer for the name.
