Comment:

I am receiving numerous ad pop-ups and have traced the problem to .exe files appearing and executing from my System32 folder. When stopping these files from executing in Task Manager, they re-execute and some can't be deleted because they continue to execute. When I am successful in deleting these files more files are added to my System 32 folder and at least two of them continue to execute. The names of the files continually change and for the most part are executables. I've run Spybot and AdAware and they delete cookies but they keep coming back. A recent Hijack log is included:

What you have is called, the peper trojan.
http://www.mjc1.com/files/peperpage/

Please follow these steps, in exactly that order:

Run this uninstaller:

http://home01.wxs.nl/~kleyn080/uninst.exe

When done, use the following tool to delete the files themselves:

Download Drpepertobackup.exe, save to disk, and doubleclick the file; it will self extract to c:\.
Find the "C:\drpeper\Find backup and Delete Peper files.vbs" file and double click it.

http://www.mjc1.com/files/mo/drpepertobackup.exe

A box will appear, copy and paste:Vwb6j.exe and hit ok.

A second box will appear, copy and paste BmtZ.exe and hit ok.

It will find all the files, delete them and will make backups in the same folder.
It'll open a text file (Peper.txt) with the list of all files deleted.

Post a new log, with the peper log included.

Some say this is ad-ware, almost like spyware.

I can only offer what I know, whatever you remove, reboot afterwards.

Not sure how you got it. To keep it from
returning, put these in restricted sites zone:
rads01.quadrogram.com and www.sandboxer.com

Good luck

Weatherbug is adaware/spyware for sure. I had a lot of problems with it, couldn't get rid of it. Adaware got rid of it. Did you ever install this dreaded weatherbug? It is a pain in the butt, and not necessary.

I like Weatherbug because one of its sites is about a mile from my house and I like to have the information readily accessable. I agree its probably causing more problems than its worth for the convenience. I started out with the "free" version then went to the pay version hoping things would get better. They didn't. I'll probably get rid of it as soon as I figure out a better way to display the information.

There is a place that you can go to that is totally free and has NO adaware/spyware at all. It is www.weatherchannel.com.
There you can install the free program called "desktop weather."
It tells you all the local weather in your area, you can have alerts sent to you incase of bad weather, etc.
And, like I said...it is free of adaware/spyware.

Good Luck.
Happy Holidays to you.
