I am currently running Windows XP with SP1. Recently my internet explorer has been giving me problems. When I open IE instead of my homepage, it takes me to some search engine for spyware. In the address box it says
"res://C:\WINDOWS\System32/shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm"
If I go to the control panel and reset my homepage to something else, the correct homepage will come up the first time, but if I open IE again, the search page comes up again. If this isn't bad enough, half the time I cannot go to any websites because when I try, a page that comes up that says "Acces Denied: Virus Detected" then it has a little paragraph about spyware/adware removal.
Here's what I have tried so far:
1. When this was happening I was already running AVG virus scan, Ad-aware, and spywareblaster.
2. I downloaded spybot and tried running it.I finally found some spyware using spybot, and when I tried using the fix command, the objects would still be there on the next scan. I went through the registry and personally deleted those enteries, but the problem did not go away.
-note: even when I set spybot to not allow the current user to change the homepage, the homepage would still change.
If someone could figure this one out I would appreciate it!

Download and run Hijack This, another free program that is useful in situations like yours. You can get it at www.merijn.org (or look for it through a Gogle search). After running Hijack This you will have a full log of all processes running on your PC (good and bad). From there, you will want to pinpoint the bad stuff, put a checkmark next to those items, and delete them. You can also copy your log as a text file, take it to the following web page, and copy it into the empty window - they will analyze your log for you ...

Also - disconnect your computer from the network and boot in Safe Mode (hit F8 when booting). Then run ad-aware, spybot, etc. See if that fixes it.
