Norton 2005 seems to have got rid of 5 problems yesterday - Trojan.Desktophijack, Adware.Iefeats, SecurityRisk.Downldr, Adware.Spysheriff and Bloodhound.Exploit.54 - (it was a bad day) but I can't get control of my desktop background. It has a big black box in the middle headed SPYWARE INFECTION with some kind advice underneath it. The Display options in the Control Panel appear to have been disabled. Any thoughts?

Try downloading this file, Extract it and then run the Desktop.bat file and try changing Desktop Wallpaper.

Good Luck,
NickMy PC never Crashes nor does it have Bugs - It just develops random Features at times.

TimBUK, SpySherrif is a hard one to get rid of completely. Take your time and follow the instructions at the link below.

Hey i had this exact same problem, I ended up using Adaware Away. It worked Perfect. You can get a trial from
http://www.shareup.com/getfile.php?v=12394&file=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.AdwareAway.com%2Fdownload%2FAdwareAway.exe
Install this and open it an locate remove hijackers on the left hand side. On the right window locate AntiVirus-Gold Desktop Hijacker, click on this and down the bottom click remove and then follow the instructions. This should remove it from your computer.
Ignorance is Bliss but Knowledge is Power

Thanks everybody. I've been away so only just picked up the messages. I've started with the easier suggestion and run Adaware Away which has got rid of the desktop so I haven't run the bat file. But... even though Norton says I'm clean, something's opening a Dos and Notepad window from time to time which makes me worried(!) so I'm going to work through your advice today Tuffenuf, I'll give you an update.
Teenageexpert, not sure you really want an answer and not sure what group I fit into when you say "you people" but it is an interesting question. I'm just an ordinary bloke, am careful where I visit, careful what I open and keep my protections up to date. Obviously not careful enough but not sure what else I can do.
