Hi, I'm going to reinstall windows and am going to buy a Spyware program. I always hear rave about Counterspy and it's reviewed al the time in PC World Magazine. Spyware doctor is also an amazing program too. Spyware doctor costs $30 while Counterspy only costs $20. Can anyone that has used both programs or can help me out, Is Spyware Doctor worth the extra $10? Does it have more features then Counterspy? There both amazing programs and either one will be great to have. Thanks

Novak

Well, I refrain from buying adware/spyware programs. Why? Because there are good ones FREE from the Internet. Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy to name a couple of the most popular.

Spyware Doctor gets good reviews so it's a good program. However, what I don't like about it is that it uses a ton of memory to run. Based on your computer specs though it wouldn't be a problem.

CounterSpy is also good. Really it's a LEGAL program that looks just like Microsoft Antispyware. It's really the same thing they might have some options that are slightly different but I'm not sure. At least it looks the same to me. And Microsoft Antispyware is FREE.

Personally, I don't use both. On my computer, Microsoft Antispyware, Adaware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Hijackthis,
and a Zonealarm firewall is installed.

I have similar stuff to racermark on this W98SE. Last "nasty" was called Happy99 (yes, that long ago). Never felt the need to pay for security progs. Yeah, but I realise that's not what you asked....

Free programs are not the best programs. they are good, but usually not as good as commercial. when it was huge spyaxe epidemic Adaware added removal instructions just after 1 month. Spyware doctor added in a few days. Thats a huge difference. Millions computers were infected during that month.
So what I'm saying Free is not always the best solution.
