Once again,Ad`aware, and spybot fail the scan.Let me explain.I posted a log about 2 weeks ago about having Spybot,Ad`ware, spywareguard, spyblaster installed on my pc,and i noticed after complete updates, and then a full system scan with Ad`ware, and spybot that there was spyware by the name of POWERREG V3 installed in my startup that was neither detected by spybot or ad-aware.Furthermore,I updated all my antispyware software yesterday before a complete system scan with spybot, and Ad-ware that came up as completely clean.I then went to my start up to see if anything was there, and i noticed once again POWERREG V3 that was installed in my system, and that was completely undetected by Ad`ware, and spybot, and that was allowed to install itself in the registry that niether spyblaster,or spyguard was able to prevent.I then manually deleted all the POWERREG V3 files folders in my system, and upon doing so i noticed a file by the name of LEADERTECH that was installed in my system.I didnt have a clue to what it was so i did some research, and it came up as spyware that tracks surfing habits, and some more goodies. So now it makes me wonder on what else is in my system that niether spybot ,or ad`ware can detect,or that spyblaster,or spyguard cant prevent.I know that these Anti spyware software companies are not 100% in detecting all spyware, and that some spyware may slip through the cracks.I have come to the conclusion that i dont trust these antispyware companies, and that it might be time to start paying for what i get.I know that the antispyware offer a measure of safety, but this is still not enough, and i will have to search for more antisyware software that can pick-up after spybot,ad-ware,spyguard,and,spyblaster.Peace!!!

Spyware and Anti-spyware is a game of cops & robbers. The cops can't act till the crime has been made known (& the do-nuts have been eaten).

Is there any chance that you have Partician Magic installed? If you do, that is where it came from.

Capt,I Dont have that om my pc.Partician Magic. And for Cannymum,I tried to submitt the files, but i kept getting an error.Anyway,I have also noticed that Ad-Aware does a poor job in detecting spyware cookies. When spybot came out with the newer version,i had previously scanned my system with Ad~aware, and then i scanned my system with the new version of spybot, and it had about 60 spyware cookies.I have also noticed that when i scan my system with full updates using Ad-ware,and Spybot on a normal desktop, and when spybot, and Ad-ware scans come up clean,That when I turn around, and scan my pc in safe mode, and re-scan my system that spyware is detected by Spybot, and Ad-aware.Anyway,I apologize for the long story, and if i have offended anyone in anyway.I just thought i would share my personal experience with Antispyware software.PEACE

Cannymum is one of the people that shows the level of customer support that the Lavasoft Team provides. I am sure no offence was taken, as Cannymum was just trying to keep Adaware up to date by having the file submitted. I was hoping it was Partition Magic. I have also read that Palm's PDA software will put it on your system. On another post at this site someone reported that they thought they got powerreg from a Hasbro game their kids installed, so you might do a search in the security area for that post.

Don't know about the programs you reference to, but they might not meet the criteria for Spyware/Adware/Malware, and each of the anti-spyware programs have their own. Just because a program installs itself on your system, does not make it some sort of Malware, yet some may classify it as such. Do you consider "Joke" programs Spyware? Do you consider a system manufactures diagnostic tools that monitor your hard drive and report its usage and errors back to them, to be spyware? What about those programs that keep track of if you have registered the product and keep reminding you and sending the information that it is being used without being registered. I am sure the marketing people who track your surfing habits do not consider their programs to be Spyware, but tools to help serve you better. Many of the web pages with "hit counters" services are enabling the provider of the counter to track you without installing a program on your system.

Jack G.Well that is your free choice to choose if you want even harmless spyware on your pc.For myself?NO!! I dont want then in my pc even if they are harmless as you state...

Why should I be concerned about Spyware?
Though spyware is as unwelcome as a computer virus, as a general rule, spyware is not thought to be a threat to the security of a computer. The aim of syware is typically not to wreak havoc. Rather, it is to quietly monitor your behavior so others can profit at your expense. At the lesser extreme, it can bog down your system and serve unwanted pop-up ads. At its most severe, your data can get in the wrong hands and you get ripped off. In almost all cases your privacy may be violated.

The problems really begin when more than one Spyware program is running. These programs are often poorly written, and they just don't get along very well. Spyware can cause all kinds of systems errors, browser crashes, lockups, random reboots, and many other annoying problems that are otherwise difficult to diagnose.Furthermore, they shouldnt be in anyones computer without the owners full consent. They use decieving methods to install themselves into users pc,and for what reason?Do you think that majority of owners want spyware installed in there pc even if they are asked to?Of course not.Thats why they use any means to gain entry into users pc`s.They also leave backdoors for trojans, and viruses when they install themselves into pc`s.Would you like someone looking in through your home window without your consent?Seems harmless?is it?PEACE
