I have installed a Free copy of Spybot S&D and I wish to know is can it be updated each time I click Check for Updates I see there are 4 but when I proceed to try and download them nothing happens and I am told that the program is not responding.

Is this normal for the free version or not?
I have uninstalled it and downloaded another copy from a different source and still the same responce.

Regards

M

If you look at the download button at the top of the screen, you will see a mirror (unido, etc) just to the right of it, select the Australian mirror and then see if you can then get your updats. Take care and all the best!

Also even though it appears to be doing nothing if you let it sit long enough 10-15 minutes it will usually pick off the newest updates ,not sure why it does this but eventually it will pull them down .

As capt was trying to say,
use the EON (Australia) selection to download from.It always seems to work better for most, definitely does for me.

If you are going to a place that gives a choice of a payed, or free version. Makes me wonder, if you are getting the TRUE Spybot-Search and Destroy. After that page loads, and you have read it. Also click the "News" link, at the left of that page.

If you do have the correct one. Sorry for the ramblings :-)

You would think that the author of SpyBot S&D would have gotten the message by now that his design of always defaulting to main site for updates is the number one problem with his program, and causes the most problem. You would think that an optional setting would have been added by now that lets advanced users select a different site as their default download site.

Despite spybot-s&d has a few bugs... I think it is the best damn spybot program invented. I would damn well payed $10 for it.. I have donated and support him in his creation. Sorry, I just had to throw that out there. Once again, it is one of the "true" spybot programs that doesnt put more spybot s--- on your computer when you install it. Have a nice day!
