This came up in my spybot results:
"!CDilla:Program Directory
c:\C_DILLA""Application that installed CDILLA may stop working if you remove it. DO NOT remove if you haven't updated to 1.1 rel 3 or later.
Company:Macrovision
Threat: Privacy Breach"Would someone please explain this to me? How do I determine which application installed CDilla or any other spyware for that matter. I gather it is spyware since spybot detected it. But when I clicked "fix problems" spybot was unable to fix it and asked to run it again on start up.
Thanks!

C_DILLA is some sort of license management system. I think it is supposed to report back to base the serial numbers for various programs used on your PC and check they are valid (anti-share).
I can understand this, but to be effective it would also need to have your IP details or some sort of link to you. How do you prosecute someone for illegal software if you have no way of finding them.
As for which software put it there???
I'm not sure how you would find that bit out.
If a scumbag programmer harvested this program and adapted it for their own needs, for example.... to send your details to an individual with a view to obtaining your passwords for online banking etcLook in the C_DILLA folder for a log file. You can probably open any of the files in there with 'Notepad' and look for anything that may link it to a program on your PC.
You can open small picture files with Notepad and find the details of what program was used to alter the picture (Ulead, Adobe etc).I would not want that C_DILLA thing on my PC.
Post back if you have anything more to add.
I/we can all learn from each other.

Thanks michael2
I'm going to see if I can find the program that attached CDilla to me. I'll see if Spybot can get rid of it for me when I start up again.
I can understand companies not wanting their software to be pirated and I personally just don't purchase anything I can't afford. But I get angry at the cost of some of these programs out here. The cost of computers have dropped tremedously to where they are affordable for the average joe, but what good is the computer if folks can't afford to purchase the software to go with it.
Thanks! I'll let you know what happens with CDilla.

Turbotax ships with cdilla. I did not bother to read the EULA (end user license agreement) last year and installed it (damn intuit).
Intuit said they are now using cdilla because many more people used their electronic filing than actually purchased their software. They assumed it was piracy (I guess they did not consider family and friends doing multiple returns on the same pc).
Now I read all EULA's (it is as fun as it sounds).

Turbotax ships with cdilla!!!!

"CDilla sets itself up on an undeclared, self-created partition on your hard disk. Yes, that means it goes in and changes your partition table" !!!
This can't possibly be true, can it???????

Yes its true. Spybot and Adaware deleted it, but I was finding additional cdilla garbage for months. I would bet I still have some remnant.
TAXCUT TAXCUT TAXCUT TAXCUT TAXCUT
Intuit can go to hell.

"self-created partition"
Does this mean a hidden partition?
So if I format C:, it would still be there and only visible if I used a boot disk to look at the partitions?

You know this is really messed up!
I use TurboTax all the time. Can't trust anyone!
I don't think my CDilla came from TurboTax tough. I think mine is from HP Center. Does any one use HP computer?
sunrise - a novice trying and willing to learn

Don't know about HP. It wouldn't make much sense, cause the software can only be used on an HP computer. I know Toshiba ships it on their games cd that comes with a new laptop (the games dont require a toshiba pc to run). The other day I tried to find a list of programs that ship with c-dilla. No luck.
The EULA I mentioned above does not say "c-dilla". It says something like "this product requires the installaiton of macrovision Digital Rights Management" (aka c-dilla). Does that sound familiar?
Fun fact: c-dilla will prevent you from using a cdrw/dvdrw to burn music or data that MIGHT be illegal (I don't think it understands "fair use" - if you want to make mix cd for the car). It is capable of spying on you.
I am (obviously) still mad a year later. I spend lots of money on software, dvd's, music, etc. I am not a thief, yet I am inconvenienced because other people are. This is not as non-invasive as walking past a scanner in a store - this is messing with my pc and my privacy.
I will no longer purchase ANY intuit product.
I will not install anything requiring Digital Rights Management. If I buy something that does not have a warning ON THE BOX that DRM is included, I will fight like hell to get my money back.
I hope companies using DRM lose millions because of it. I will do my part by spending my money elsewhere.

efabs, I agree with you. Consumers should know before they purchase the product that DRM is included. If I can only read the EULA after the product is purchased, then I am out my money if I decide not to accept the EULA and therefore can't use the product. My experience has been that places don't take any software back once it has been opened.
I will have to think strongly about Intuit also!

Sunrise/efabs/Michael2
Greetings from Scotland.
Like sunrise I have picked up CDILLA I thing from my daughter playing Shakira's CD Laundry Service which in very small print on the case said "Will not play on PC/Mac.
Again SPYBOT picked this up and I attempted to delete it but with no success. CDILLA seems to be interfering with me copying very old archived audio tape cassettes which I am attempting to transfer to CD using Audio Lab 3. The results are that only the first five minutes is written and the rest is just blank.
I have however found out that CDILLA is resident and auto running at startup and is located in Windows\System32\drivers under two file names CDAC11BA & CDAC15BA.
Like sunrise I am willing to learn (even at 59 years old) so can anyone re-assure me that I can delete these files without me being caused further grief or problems by deleting them?
I also agree with you efabs I do not wish to profit from pirating either by purchasing or selling pirate copies but I do take exception to being dictated to by companies. Self control is better than corporate mandate.

Hi anybody out there that can help. I posted a question about the cdilla sitting in win system32/drivers and i noted that you said that cdilla interferes with cd rewriters. question can I remove this without it being regenerated and also without causing me any further grief
fourjimmy

Start in safemode. Make sure you can view all hidden files. Search for CDAC15BA, CDAC11BA, cdilla, macrovision, drm, digital rights management, etc. Delete them all.
What version of Windows do you have?
There may be something related to the above items I listed in the add/remove programs list, in control panel. You might want to check that first before you start deleting.
You basically clicked yes to install Macrovision digital rights management when you installed some software. You may need to also remove that software.
Backup the registry. Then search the registry for all the above items. Delete any you find. You might also want to try a registry cleaner. Check download.com for some with free trials (and make sure it does not come with spyware). The one I use is no longer available for free download. I wish I still had my original download.
