SpyBot can't complete cleaning up stuff that it found. When I click on "Fix selected problems" it returns with an error that it can't find file "host" (windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts)
What is it lppking for and where does this file come from? Thanks for any help

Try another program called Trojan Remover, excellent program to eradicate "trojan's". http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/details.html

OK, I just installed and ran the program. It did not find anything. I'm still new at this, but I'm pretty confident I have something on my computer that is not right, because may times I click on a www link i only get a blank screen. This seems to be getting worse and happens frequently now. When I enter the url in the same blank window I am directed OK to the site entered.
Also, SpyBot detects several hijacker programs, but I can't delete them because it says that it can't access the "host" file. I have no idea what it wants.
Is "Trojan Remover" designed to find these type of viruses?

Hi Kurt.
In win2000 the hosts file is not in 'windows\system32' but 'winnt\system32.' It contains mappings from DNS names to IP addresses so I'm not sure why it would need to be deleted.
