Spybot - BackWeb Lite?

Comment:
Hi everyone, When running Spybot it comes up with 48 results for "BackWeb Lite". They are not checked, and I have just kept them, because I understand that Compaq uses it. That it is used to automatically check for updates. Is this true? What exactly is this BackWeb Lite? Should I keep it or let Spybot fix it for me? Tanja

What kind of updates do you ever need from Compaq???
I would get rid of it.
You can always restore it if you need to (just leave the spybot backups for a while).

I removed BackWeb Lite with Spybot over a year ago. Have never had a problem; never missed it. 8-)

Argee with the above... Even Backweb Lite is suspicious.. Bin it! The way I see it is this.. These good people at Ad-Aware and SpyBot do not put stuff in their data files for nothing! And as for Compaq, Dell,, et al sticking their "software" on your PC,, well.. I class that as an infection too!!! You'll sell the PC before you'd ever need an "update" from the likes of them. Besides, any hardware updates (ie drivers) will quite often be picked up by XP Update. The bottom line is that if it works, don't fix it with a driver update!!
Summary: I just found and dumped 54 iterations of BackWeb Lite on my system using a full updated SpyBot 1.3. Then I tightened up my security. I was about to use Hijackthis but it keeps freezing on 015 Trusted ...
