divie, Download Ewido Security Suite then set it up this way Ewido Setup Instructions reboot into Safe Mode and run Ewido

When the scan has completed, Ewido will create a report.txt file. Click the "Save Report" button on the bottom of the screen and save the log to your desktop in case you need it later.

Please reboot into normal mode and post the ewido log.

Then download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

divie, Download this temp file cleaner ccleaner but don't run it yet, we'll run it from safe mode later. Make sure there is not anything in the recycle bin that you need as ccleaner will delete recycle bin items unless checked not to do so.

Run Ht again, close all windows and browser except HT, then place check in the box to the left of the followinf items and press "fix checked".

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost(Unless you set this up)

O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {3e9b951e-6f72-431b-82cf-4a9fbf2f53bc} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpA8B8.tmp

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyAxe] C:\Program Files\SpyAxe\spyaxe.exe /h

O16 - DPF: {FF3F0F03-0F01-131A-A3F9-08F02B23E0CC} - http://66.117.37.13/dba2218.exe

Reboot into Safe Mode then set the computer up to view hidden files by going to start> control panel>folder option>view tab>scroll down a tick the circle beside "show hidden files and folders" and untick "hide extensions for know file types"and "hide protected system operating files">apply>ok.

Next go to start>control panel>add/remove programs and uninstall spyaxe if found(may not be there).

Now navigate to the following files/folders and delete them if found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvctrl.exe (file)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssearchnet.exe (file)

C:\Program Files\SpyAxe (folder)(May be two of these,delete them both).

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchosts.exe(file)(note the s on svchost do not delete similar file scvhost.exe)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpA8B8.tmp

Go to start>control panel>display>desktop>customize desktop>web>remove everything except"my current home page".

Run the ewido scan the run ccleaner.

Reboot into normal mode and post a new HT log.

divie, We like a little bit yet. The temp file mutated.

Lets try this it is really pretty simple.Reboot into safe mode.

Go to start>run>type in "notepad" with out the quotes>ok.Click file>new then and paste the following text into a new file(just the part between the lines):
_____________________________________

attrib -r -h -s C:\Windows\System32\hpA8B8.tmp
del C:\Windows\System32\hpA8B8.tmp
attrib -r -h -s C:\Windows\System32\974F.tmp
del C:\Windows\System32\974F.tmp
___________________________________

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as Type" field says "All Files". Then please go to the desktop and double-click on remove.bat.Allow to run.

Run Ht again, close all windows and browsers except HT, place a check beside these items and press "fix checked".

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyAxe] C:\Program Files\SpyAxe\spyaxe.exe /h

Restart into normal mode and post a new log.

divie, Purge System Restore by shutting it down and restarting it.

To create a new restore point go Start>Run>type "msconfig" without the quotes>ok>Launch System Restore>Tick the circle beside "create a restore point">next>name it anything you wish>Create>home>restart the computer.

Then do a google search for spywareblaster, install it on your computer, update it. It will run in the background and re-write most spyware script before it can get onto your computer.

divie,One of the toughest versions, a friend of mine says this tool will kill this version of spyaxe http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/SpyAxeFix.exe

Save it to your desktop. Close all other programs and windows. Double click SpyAxeFix.exe, then click Start to extract the tool to it's own folder. Open the SpyAxeFix folder and double click the SpyAxeFix.bat to start the tool. At one point when the tool runs, your taskbar will dissappear, and your computer will restart when the tool completes. A text file named spyaxe.txt will be created in the SpyAxeFix folder. Post the contents of that log please.

Probably tied to the spyaxe scum, can't prove it yet..There is a tool to remove it.Download http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/smitRem.exe to your desktop.

Reboot into safe mode

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again, this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish, this may take a while,so please be patient.

I just used windows XP to restore to the date before I got infected with the spyaxe. It seems to have worked (no virus pop-up messages or homepage reroutes, yet) but I still have a file in my C:\Windows\System32 directory called "hp76C8.tmp". Should I manually delete this one or just leave it?

I got SpyAxe3.0 but before downloading it, I used the smitrem fix method, and it seems to have gotten the SpyAxe off my computer. I have no more popup, and the SpyAxe program is gone. But I'm still having some problems. My Adobe Reader 7.0 won't run anymore (even after removal and reinstallation), and my Outlook 2003 won't either. Everytime I use either one, I get a message saying it "has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've also noticed that my Internet Explorer has trouble with keeping a page loaded. Like when I click on a link on one webpage that brings up a new window to open the link, the original webpage goes blank and I have to reload it. Scanning with my AV program doesn't find anything, and a Windows System Restore doesn't help either. Btw, I'm using Windows XP Home Edition. Pleeease tell me I don't have to format my hard drive. Any ideas???
