I've read several threads about this (I got this problem myself). Can't figure out how to get rid of it even though I've tried absolutely everything people has recommended. Everything but putting upp my logfile from "hijackthis" wich you also have to download to see what files that need to be deleted.

Shall I put my logfile here?

This program should remove spyaxe http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ . Download it to the desktop, update it, and then run it.

If it does not work it can be removed manually, just post back.

here are a couple of things and they have allways worked for me when i had this experience before

1. right click the desktop, click on properties then on desktop, click on customize desktop, click on the web tab and delete all webpages or at least uncheck them press ok, apply, ok.

2. go to run
type msconfig
go to startup
and uncheck any unfamiliar programs or thing s that are starting when you log in, or just uncheck one restart until the little window stops showing up.repeat the proccess until the message stops showing up

3. just in case start windows in safe mode and try one of this programs all free

- spybot search and destroy
- ad-aware
- microsoft antispyware

and use spyware doctor just to detect if anything is left dont pay for the program just scan and see if it finds anything if it did then just run ad-aware, spybot, microsoft antispyware until the're remove. if none of the free ones can remove them then i guess just buy spyware doctor and remove them.

write back if you have any more questions about all this.

PLEASE WRITE BACK IF MY ADVICE WAS HELPFUL

mess with the best, suffer like the rest.

Until Panda came out with a new update to solve the problem 12/10/05. If spyaxe keeps regenerating even after you use the program; you will need to shut off the system restore under my computer and rerun the antivirus program. Once you have reboted and the virus is gone you can turn the system restore back on. The spyaxe program uses the system restore feature to regenerate itself. This work for me hope it helps you...

I tried to put it all in very simplistic terms for people that aren't that computer savvy to understand. It was quite a challenge for me to say the least. If I forgot something please let me know :)

Start your computer and push "F8" vigorously till you come to a black screen. At the top of the black screen you'll see "Safe mode", using your arrows scroll up, highlight it and hit "enter". This will take you to a screen that will allow you to access your desktop. Wait till your desktop appears. Go to start menu...then click "search"...then click "files and folders in C Drive"...then search for "ioctrl.dll"...right click on "ioctrl.dll" and at the bottom you'll see "rename"...rename it to "ioctrl.old"...then restart your computer in normal mode and it shouldn't show up in the icon tray. Using the same process to search for a file as I stated above from the start menu, find the file "ioctrl.old"...right click it and hit delete...it should take a short trip to your recycle bin...now delete it from there also...nice huh...it works :) Now go find the file from response #43 and delete it also. It would also probably be a good idea to delete anything in "System32" that has shown up there since the whole problem started...all this really isn't that diffucult...GOOD LUCK!!

Paul

Guys... I've been batteling spyaxe for 4 hours now... tried everything listed here... tried other things.... Believe it or not... Microsoft Antispyware was the ONLY thing that successfully removed everything and kept this from regenerating itself. I also noticed that once this was completely removed... that Norton Antivirus was no longer functional at all. I believe Norton may have been partially responsible for this!

When I downloaded SpyAxeFix.zip, AVG said that SpyAxeFix.bat was a virus.

Its saying it is a Virus because it is a Batch Script File... You can ignore that message from the AntiVirus... Its a Safe File...
