Comment:

I have ran Ad-Aware and it has picked up 5 spy ware items, I removed all 5 of them, and then when went to start Kazaa and it came up with something like “You have removed a file that Kazaa needs to run please reinstall Kazaa, Kazza will now close”. So I go into Ad-Aware and put back the spy ware and Kazaa works.
Does any one know what spy ware is safe to take of so that Kazaa can still run, or what spy ware Kazaa users?
Thanks,
Matt

Nice name by the way!

Erm, I would get Kazaa Lite - search on google for it. It has no spyware. Spyware sucks!

If you remove spyware from Kazaa or any p2p program that has it bundled in the program ,you lose function of that program.

I don't know about Kazaa lite but if you want to use Kazaa you have to keep spyware or lose Kazaa.

That's your decision.
IMO spyware on my pc is too high a price to pay for any "free" service.

JB

Get rid of Kazaa and it's bugs.......

http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/5077/new/cleankazaa.html

Then get spyware free Kazaalite

www.kazaalite.com

It's the same program with the spyware either removed or disabled. For the pop-up's you have to install a 'HOSTS' file into the Windows directory.

To help keep virii out, go to... tools - options - filter, and check the file types that may contain a virus are filtered out.
You will not be able to download games and such but you can still access pictures, text, mpeg & mp3 files. You still should virus check the folder in which the files are downloaded to before you open anything in there... MY COMPUTER - C: drive - PROGRAMS - KAZAALITE - MY SHARED FOLDER.

My feelings exactly!

And "free" is not really free because you pay for it with the additional resources spyware uses on your computer, bandwidth it uses "phoning home", and the possibility of having your personal data stolen. To me that's a very *high* price.

All that said, if you still want to run Kazaa, (and if nothing's changed since I last used it) there's a dummy file you can download that replaces the one that's giving you the problem. It's called cd_clint.dll and a google search for "dummy cd_clint.dll" brought up several sites where it can be downloaded.
Download the file. Search your computer for cd_clint.dll and either delete it or rename it and put it elsewhere on your drive. Replace the downloaded dummy in place of the original and you'll be fine. The virus scanners will still bring it up when you scan but the new version can simply be ignored or marked to exclude from future scans.
Again, if nothing's changed with the program itself, you'll notice that the ads no longer appear in the bottom left corner while you're running it. Personally, I like WinMX. But if that ever goes belly up, I'll go back to Kazaa in a minute...

Personally, Response Number 4 sounds good, although he did get a virus from a text file download ! Oh, and a strange named file that would not delete..... but a genius on this forum saved the day. Hurrah !
