Hi,

Can someone help me? I have a feeling (about 99%) that my husband is checking what I do on my computer! I have been suspicious, so I checked under *search* what programs had been looked at today. This is what it showed up! (I was at work at the time).
Can anyone tell me if this means anything?

DSINFO.DAT C:/Restore
ShellIconCache C:/Window
rboo5.cab C:/windows/SYSBCKUP
APPLOG.ind C:/windows/APPLOG
i-view32.ini C:/Programme/IrfanView

All these sights had been visited today. What could he have seen with these programs?

I read in Internet that the file APPLOG.ind shows what programs I use! Does it also show the internet sights I go in? I myself didnt know how to check out these programs,a nd dont know what purpose they have, and what he could have been looking for!!!

I have checked my computer for Trojans with
Trojan Remover and SwatIt, and it shows nothing.

Can someone help me. Is there hidden information here about my use of the computer?

Thank you for all your replys......if any:-))

Hmm..from the list above, nothing special.

What u mean by "checking what I do on my computer"?
Well, perhaps ur husband just check ur internet habit? Than u can delete all ur internet history, cookies and internet temporary files.

Follow ups are welcome

Something else occured to me! The other day I was on internet. I was in a site, which I lost and couldnt find on the browser, so I went into Internet Temp Files to see if I could find it there! Got a surprise to see that only the cookies, and my start up page (google) was showing. I had been interneting and visiting sites for over an hour........where did it all go! Is it possible for internet files to be transfered somewhere into another folder!

What I mean by checking on my what I do on my computer,....means exactly that! Are the sites he visited showing him what I do on my computer?????? Which programs I use?
etc! Is it some kind of log history?

If your married what are you so worried about? Is it your computer or his? Give spybot search and destroy a try someone on this board suggested it and it made me feel better about surfing at work.

Just confront your husband and tell him that what you do is none of his business.
Tell him how you feel, and ask him how he would feel if you were spying on him...

helpme,
Theres a program built by microsoft that deletes your history for you everytime you reboot. it has a LOT of other useful tools, it is a MUST for me with windows, the 'repair file associations' has saved my butt a couple times! & you can speed up your menu speed... ect... a lot of useful stuff., but if you dont know how to delete history, cookies, etc use this "TweakUI" (user interface) it is accessed in ctrl pannel, just go to the 'parinoia' section. Go here & it is at bottom of page, works w/95&98 also (doesnt say there that it does)

hope this is helpful. Speedy

Charger first of all you need not to confront the person at all. be a little discreet about this. first of all find out info that he is watching you then go to that person. don't make things worse by making statements that aren't true. this is coming from a Psych major as well as an IS major. help me glad i saw your post here ok first of all there is ways to retreave info from you system from the sites you have type in, visted, as well as deleted. also with in cookie files as well. you might want to check a program called the cleaner by Moosoft
this will take care of any keyloggers or backdoors. second what type of operating system are you using Windows 98 , me stuff like that.. the programs listed above won't do the trick on finding what your looking for.

to answer your questions to moving your sites to a folder as well as the log file. both are possable. first of all if you find a file Index.dat. usually this is were all of the sites you have visited go. a lot of times you can open this up with note pad and look through them. i could also email you a progam to delete the contents as well as view them. i know most people don't have this program because it's hard to find. second yes it is posable for someone to transfer your cache somewhere else for viewing. email me at pinkyadnthebrian@earthlink.net i can give you more info as well. on how to delete traces of your surfing and keeping your privicy.

Dear Charger! Jon is right about confronting my husband about this. FIRST I wanted to inform myself. My husband is a 100% computer specialist. If I confront him, without informing myself FIRST, then next time he will cover his tracks better. He has put keyloggers on,,and other spy programs before. I will confront him as soon as I have 100% proof, and know how to protect myself in future!
And now to JON, thankyou so much for your advise and expecially for UNDERSTANDING..... I didnt come here for marriage councelling, but to learn to be a step ahead!! I will contact you per email as soon as I have opened up a Private Netmail. I am sure he reads my emails (via outlook) as well from time to time. You will here from me, in the near future!
In the meantime, I have learned how to delete and disable my APPLOG.ind and OPTLOG.TXT files, but disabling Taskmon.

Bye and tnx

This might seems a bit strange, but maybe, if your computer and his is on a network, he might be checking for backdoor trojans.
He could be monitoring the programs that are running to check to see if there any "suspicious" programs that are\have been running.
Who knows?

You r saying that ur husband has his own computer, beware, if you are sharing the internetconnection, he just have to put a sniffer on his machine and he can see whatever he want. ( www.snort.org ) for example

Relax...looks like sys-admin stuff mostly. IrfanView is a picture viewer. Do a search on your computer for i_view32.exe and run the program. The default location is C:\Program Files\IrfanView. ShellIconCache is an icon cache used by Windows. Not sure about DSINFO.dat. You running Windows ME? Looks like a restore file. Rboo5.cab would be a system file backup created by Windows. Applog is a system file of sorts, used to help Windows defrag. If you fear spying, you might try a program like Windows Washer, which cleans up all the temp files in a computer, and a program that monitors all the processes in a Windows machine (I've been experimenting with one called proport -- do a search on google.com).

Hope this helps.

You may want to go to www.webattack.com, they have a LOT of freeware. You can find some security software, some may help to keep people from accessing your PC. Hope that helps.

brokencrow seeing that you seem like you know what your talking about. the program that you mentioned above about the view program. this could be some type of monitoring software, and the Applog is not for defraging if you do any com frensics work this is another place someone like myself can see all the programs that were ran on your comp not only that.

I'm learning all the time, Jon. I don't know the full story on Applog, you're probably right. I am very interested in security issues and just assume that about anything you do in Windows can be monitored somehow. There is "washing" software like Evidence Eliminator that gets rid of many "tracks" but there's so many aspects to Windows "insecurity." I did download and run IrfanView. Seems like a nice program, fwiw. It's funny...got a brother who works in D.C. for the government. Says he knows guys who won't touch a computer, or email, because of security issues.

Hi there JON,

Sent you an email, but it seems the address is wrong.....it came back!!

ThANK YOU to the rest of you for your help and responses!

Thats not counting you DANNY...... it seems it should be ME asking YOU how old YOU are?
Are you one of these ppl that thinks its okay to pry into other ppls computers and private affairs, on the other hand making sure that YOUR computer is safe with uncrackable passwords so that noone can spy on YOU! Your comment was uncalled for! I was asking for computer help here, and was being honest about the cause of my problem! Guess if I had said it was my BOYFRIEND who was spying on me, I would have got more sympathy from you, but of course married woman loose their rights at the wedding altar!!!
I hope you are decent enough to apologize!

History Kill is a good program for computer privacy. It deletes cookies, drop boxes, and history. This program is also helpful for cleaning out any other bad cookies that yo might have in your temp file.
