SMART HDD Virus wiped out Windows XP & Programs

April 8, 2012 at 13:20:57
Specs: Windows XP
Yesterday, SMART HDD loaded itself onto my 10 year old Dell 4550 Desktop and since then I've lost all of my icons, all of my programs, all of my pictures and all my documents. Now my novice efforts to fix this problem has resulted in the loss of my Windows XP operating system. I have a very blank, black screen.

Is there a simple solution for this problem or should I return this computer to my local computer repair shop, where they recently talked me into removing my Norton Anti Virus program and installed Microsoft Security Essentials to take it's place?

Here is a guide to remove this malware.

BTW: Norton is no good and Microsoft Security Essentials is a good alternative. I recommend it to people that are not virus prone, I recommend Avira for people that are virus prone.
