Ad Aware will fix slow running Internet Explorer.

I had the following problem. Internet Explorer was slow to scroll webpages and very slow to display typed information such as typing into the ebay search box.

I found my browser homepage sometimes changed also, so I knew a browser hijacking program had been installed on my hard drive.

I went to www.lavasoftusa.com and downloaded the free version of their "Ad Aware" program, installed and ran it, and it found and identified the malware files which had been added to my system registry, and on my hard drive.

After Ad Aware quarantined these files, I restarted my computer and ran another scan and found nothing.

Then I tested Internet Explorer and it ran perfectly again. PC-World magazine has given this program "best product" award and it deserves it.

Many people are reporting this problem. I hope this helps a few of them.

Not surprising.

Many/most who frequent here are currently using Adaware,I'm sure...I am.Spybot and SpywareBlaster could easily be added to that list.

An important follow up. After I used Ad Aware to fix my slow Internet Explorer problem, the problem came back. The trouble was more extensive, so I did some more spyware research. I learned I had been attacked by a spyware entity called CoolWeb and that I needed to download a program called cwshredder.exe from the following website http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html. There is a terrific individual there named Merijn who has developed the CoolWeb Shredder program and makes it available free. This program appears to be the only way to defeat and remove the insidious CoolWeb spyware. Broader spectrum spybot detection programs (like Ad Aware) don't get it all, and anti-virus programs don't even know the spyware is present on your system. I noticed this thread is now turning up on metacrawler when I search "internet explorer slow" which was my intention when I submitted this thread at computing.net in the first place. I hope more than a few people might be helped.
